About East Coast Eagles AFC

Origins and Founding

The East Coast Eagles Australian Football Club traces its origins to 3 February 1976, when the Baulkham Hills Australian Football Club Inc. (BHAFC) was officially founded by a group of football enthusiasts determined to develop the Hills area of north-west Sydney as an AFL heartland. The club began its life with a bank balance of just $32.15 and fielded teams in the Under 11, Under 13, and Under 15 age groups. Early matches were played at what is now the Ern Holmes Oval, courtesy of the Pennant Hills Australian Football Club. Junior teams competed under the Baulkham Hills Falcons banner from 1976 through to the mid-1990s, and two Sydney Swans players emerged from the club's ranks during this era - Terry Thripp, who went on to become a long-serving Swan, and Dion Myles, who made his senior Swans debut in 1995. The East Coast Eagles identity was formally adopted around 2000, and in November 2001 the club's AGM approved an amicable separation from the Falcons into two distinct entities.

Club History

The Eagles entered senior Premier Division competition in the AFL Sydney competition and achieved their first senior premiership in 2009, the same season the club opened its purpose-built home at Bruce Purser Reserve (now Kanebridge Oval) in Rouse Hill. That milestone victory was followed by an historic three-peat, with back-to-back-to-back Premier Division flags in 2009, 2010, and 2011. The club competed in the NEAFL (Northern Australian Football Confederation) competition during 2012, 2013, and 2014 before returning to AFL Sydney in 2015. A fourth senior men's premiership was added in 2016 with a commanding victory over St George. The women's program, introduced in 2017, won its first title in 2019 and then secured three consecutive Women's Premier Division flags in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Home Ground

The Eagles play their home matches at Kanebridge Oval (formerly Bruce Purser Reserve), located on the corner of Withers and Commercial Roads, Rouse Hill. The facility was handed over to the club in December 2008, and the Eagles' first pre-season training session on the new surface began on 6 January 2009. Shortly before the competition season opened, the ground hosted an NAB Challenge Cup match between the Sydney Swans and Western Bulldogs in March 2009, a sold-out occasion that helped establish the venue's reputation as a premier community football ground in the Hills District. The Eagles share the facility with the Hills Hurricanes Cricket Club.

Community and Programs

The Eagles operate an extensive junior program that has grown substantially since the club's formation in 1976. The club has consistently fielded multiple junior teams across age groups and has been a key driver of AFL participation in The Hills Shire. The women's section, launched in 2017, has quickly become one of the most competitive in AFL Sydney, claiming four premierships by 2025. The club also maintains strong ties with surrounding junior clubs and participates in AFL NSW programs designed to grow the game across the Sydney north-west corridor.

Rouse Hill

Rouse Hill is a residential suburb in the Hills District of north-west Sydney, approximately 43 kilometres from the Sydney CBD. At the 2021 Census, the suburb recorded a population of 11,349 residents. Part of The Hills Shire local government area, Rouse Hill has experienced rapid growth since the opening of the Sydney Metro Northwest line in 2019, and the surrounding district includes the major retail and commercial hub of Rouse Hill Town Centre, which opened in 2008.

The Eagles compete in the AFL Sydney competition and call Kanebridge Oval, Rouse Hill, home. Find out more at eastcoasteagles.com.au, follow the club on Facebook, or connect on Instagram at @eastcoasteaglesafl.

    🔧 Preparation & Run-Through Setup - Expert instructions for break-through milestone banners.

    • Rigging Your Banner

      • Tape broomsticks or PVC pipe to each edge to keep the banner taut.

      • This creates a professional “run-through” presentation for game-day moments.

    • Creating the Break-Through Slits

      • Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.

      • Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.

    💡 Tips & Tricks

    • Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.

    • Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.

  • Return and Refund Policy

Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
