About Rovers Football Club (Central Australia)
Origins and Founding
The Rovers Football Club, known as the Double Blues, is a founding member of the Central Australian Football League (CAFL), established in 1947 in Alice Springs, Northern Territory. The Rovers were among the clubs that created the CAFL in its inaugural year, making them one of the oldest continuously operating Australian rules football clubs in Central Australia. The CAFL is the oldest and most popular football competition in Central Australia, with all games played at Traeger Park or Albrecht Oval in Alice Springs.
Club History
Over more than 75 years of competition, the Rovers have accumulated 14 CAFL premierships: in 1952, 1954, 1964, 1973, 1978, 1986, 1988, 1996, 2012, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. The run of five consecutive flags from 2017 to 2021 stands as a remarkable period of dominance in Central Australian football history. The club also appeared in the 1975 Grand Final against Pioneer in a notable chapter of the fierce local rivalry. The CAFL has been the nursery for several VFL/AFL players over the decades, with the competition noted for producing talent including Darryl White, Joel Bowden, and Liam Jurrah.
Home Ground
The Rovers play their home games at Traeger Park in Alice Springs - the home of the CAFL. Traeger Park is the principal sporting ground for Australian rules football in Central Australia and hosts all CAFL competition matches. It is named in honour of Alf Traeger, the inventor of the pedal radio, who was a prominent figure in Alice Springs history.
Community and Programs
The Rovers field senior men's and senior women's teams in CAFL competition. The women's program has also been competitive, participating in the CAFL Women's competition. The club draws its player base from across Alice Springs and the surrounding Central Australian communities, and its long history makes it one of the most recognisable football identities in the Northern Territory's desert region. The CAFL also organises the annual Ngurratjuta Country Cup, connecting remote communities to mainstream competition.
Alice Springs
Alice Springs is the second-largest town in the Northern Territory, located in the heart of Australia approximately 1,500 kilometres south of Darwin. The town had a population of approximately 25,000 at the 2021 Census and serves as the major service centre for Central Australia and the surrounding desert region. Known as "the Alice," it sits in the MacDonnell Ranges and is the gateway to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Australian rules football is deeply embedded in the town's community life, with the CAFL having operated since 1947.
The Double Blues compete in the CAFL and play at Traeger Park, Alice Springs. Follow them on Facebook or find them on Instagram.
Footy Banner Information
All Footy Banners are printed on 1.6 Metre high coated paper using solvent inks which will not run, even if they get wet.
We recommend taping broomsticks to the ends of the banner to hold it flat whilst the player runs through it. if you cut vertical slits in the banner in the centre, it creates a weak spot where it will break and look best when run through.
On a windy day, cut smaller vertical slits in the Footy Banner so if the wind catches it, it doesn't rip too soon!
Return and Refund Policy
As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.
Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
