About Coorparoo Roos

Origins and Founding

The Coorparoo Junior Australian Football Club, home of the Roos, carries on the legacy of the original Coorparoo Football Club, one of Queensland's most storied Australian rules football clubs. The original Coorparoo FC was formed in 1935 and played in the Queensland Australian Football League (QAFL) from 1941 until 1993, when financial pressures forced the senior club to withdraw from the competition. After the senior club sold its facilities and folded in 1995, the Coorparoo Junior Australian Football Club continued the name and tradition, and has kept the Roos' spirit alive in the inner-Brisbane suburb for the decades since.

Club History

The original Coorparoo Football Club won six QAFL premierships: 1960, 1963, 1964, 1968, 1984 and 1986. It was one of the most prominent clubs in Queensland football history, producing and coaching players who went on to become AFL legends. Carl Ditterich, the fierce VFL defender who played 280 games for St Kilda and Melbourne, was associated with the club, as was Jason Dunstall - the powerhouse Hawthorn full-forward who kicked 1254 AFL goals. Other notable alumni include Kevin O'Keeffe, Terry O'Neill, Michael Gibson, David Wearne, Stephen Wearne, and Mark Maclure. The junior football club today fields multiple teams in each age group along with a popular Auskick program, maintaining the Roos' identity in Coorparoo.

Home Ground

The Roos play their home games at Giffin Park in Coorparoo, an inner-Brisbane suburb located approximately 4 kilometres south-east of the Brisbane CBD. Giffin Park has been associated with Australian rules football in Coorparoo for many years and serves as the club's junior playing and training base. The ground provides a community hub for families across the Coorparoo and East Brisbane areas.

Community and Programs

The Coorparoo Junior Australian Football Club offers junior football pathways from Auskick through to under-17 level, catering to boys and girls in the inner-Brisbane catchment. The club is affiliated with AFL Queensland's junior competition structure and provides experienced coaching, a welcoming team environment, and strong connections to the senior game. The club's weekly Auskick sessions on weekends draw young families from across the inner suburbs of Brisbane.

Coorparoo

Coorparoo is an inner southern suburb of Brisbane, located approximately 4 kilometres south-east of the Brisbane CBD within the Brisbane City Council area. It is a well-established residential suburb with a mix of older homes, newer apartment developments, and a vibrant retail strip along Old Cleveland Road. Coorparoo is bounded by the suburbs of Woolloongabba, Camp Hill, Greenslopes, and East Brisbane, and is served by good bus connections into the city. The suburb has a strong community identity and the Coorparoo Roos are one of its most recognised sporting institutions.

The Roos compete in AFL Queensland junior competitions and call Giffin Park home. More information is available at coorparoojafc.com.au, and the club can be followed on Facebook and Instagram.

    • Premium Coated Paper (1.6 m high) printed with permanent, waterproof inks—won’t run or fade, even in wet weather.

    • Eco-friendly & Recyclable: All banners are fully recyclable when the celebration is over.

    • Durable weatherproof sports banners printed on heavy-duty coated paper - these banners are not made of crepe paper.

    🔧 Preparation & Run-Through Setup - Expert instructions for break-through milestone banners.

    • Rigging Your Banner

      • Tape broomsticks or PVC pipe to each edge to keep the banner taut.

      • This creates a professional “run-through” presentation for game-day moments.

    • Creating the Break-Through Slits

      • Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.

      • Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.

    💡 Tips & Tricks

    • Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.

    • Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.

  • Return and Refund Policy

As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.

Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
