About Morningside Panthers Football Club
Origins and Founding
Morningside Australian Football Club was established in 1950, entering Brisbane's elite competition as a member of the Queensland Australian Football League (QAFL). In its early years the Panthers did not qualify for a finals series for seventeen years, but the club consistently produced high-quality players who went on to represent Queensland at state level. Over the following seven decades, Morningside grew into one of the most widely recognised and successful Queensland-based AFL clubs, building one of the strongest records in the QAFL competition.

Club History
The Morningside Panthers have won 11 QAFL premierships across their history: 1965, 1991, 1993, 1994, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2014, 2020, and most recently in 2024. The 2024 flag was particularly significant, returning the Panthers to the premiership podium after a four-year gap and affirming their status as one of the QAFL's elite clubs. Beyond the men's program, the Panthers have won two QAFL Women's premierships, bringing the club's total to 13 First Division flags across both the male and female competitions. The club's connection to the Brisbane Lions system has also been notable, with the Panthers serving as a development pathway for players progressing into the elite competition.

Home Ground
The Morningside Panthers play their home games at Jack Esplen Oval in the Brisbane suburb of Hawthorne. The oval has been the Panthers' home for many years and is a well-established community sporting venue on Brisbane's inner east side. The club's clubhouse at Jack Esplen Oval serves as a social hub for members, supporters, and the broader Morningside and Hawthorne communities throughout the year, offering food and beverages beyond just match days.

Community and Programs
Morningside AFC is a comprehensive community club fielding Masters, Amateur, Women's, Junior, and Senior teams under the one banner. The women's program has been particularly successful, producing QAFL Women's premierships alongside the men's competitions. The club's junior pathway ensures young Brisbane players have a clear route from Auskick and junior football right through to the senior ranks. With nearly 8,000 Facebook followers and an active Instagram presence, the Panthers are one of Queensland's most engaged community football clubs.

Hawthorne and Morningside
Hawthorne is a leafy, established suburb on Brisbane's inner east, located approximately six kilometres from the Brisbane CBD within the Brisbane City Council local government area. Adjacent to Morningside, the area is known for its cafe culture, proximity to the Brisbane River, and well-maintained residential streets. The suburb sits between Bulimba and Norman Park on the eastern side of Brisbane, with excellent transport links into the city. The AFL has a strong presence on Brisbane's inner east, with Morningside being one of its most established ambassadors.
