About Hervey Bay Bombers
Origins and Founding
The Hervey Bay Football Club, known as the Bombers, was established in 1977 under the original name "Seahawks" with red and green colours, playing home games at Dundowran Oval. The Seahawks won a senior premiership in the Bundaberg Australian Football League in their debut 1977 season, defeating North Bundaberg Kangaroos by 28 points. Following a controversial ruling by the Bundaberg clubs to force the Seahawks out of the competition, the QAFL intervened in 1978 and admitted them to the Sunshine Coast and Gympie Australian Football League. Over subsequent years the club rebranded as the Bombers and returned to the Wide Bay competition, building what would become one of Queensland's most successful regional football clubs.
Club History
The Bombers have won 25 A Grade Senior Men's premierships from 34 Grand Final appearances across 47 seasons, cementing their status as a dominant force in Queensland regional football. Their most prolific period came in the 2000s, winning four consecutive AFL Wide Bay flags between 2002 and 2005, adding further titles in 2007, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2021, 2022, and 2023. The 2012 season was especially remarkable - Hervey Bay went through the entire campaign undefeated before winning the grand final. The club also has a strong women's program, with the Senior Women's team winning AFL Wide Bay premierships in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021.
Home Ground
The Bombers play at N.E. McLean Oval on Raward Road in Torquay, a suburb of Hervey Bay. The ground serves as the club's base for senior men's, senior women's, reserves, and junior fixtures. Hervey Bay is a major coastal city on Queensland's Fraser Coast, and the oval is a community focal point for the region's growing football population.
Community and Programs
The club fields teams across senior men's, senior women's, reserves men's, Under 17 Boys, Under 15 Boys, Under 15 Girls, and Under 13 Mixed competitions. The women's program has been particularly successful since its inception in 2018. The club's broad age-group coverage makes it the primary football pathway for young players across the Hervey Bay region, and it remains closely connected to the Fraser Coast community.
Hervey Bay
Hervey Bay is a major coastal city in Queensland's Fraser Coast region, located approximately 290-300 kilometres north of Brisbane. With a population of 57,722 at the 2021 census, it is one of Queensland's fastest-growing regional cities. Known for its calm bay waters, world-renowned whale watching, and as the gateway to Fraser Island (K'gari) - the world's largest sand island - Hervey Bay attracts tourists and new residents drawn by its relaxed lifestyle and natural beauty.
The Bombers compete in AFL Wide Bay and call N.E. McLean Oval, Torquay home. Visit the club website and follow them on Facebook for news and match-day updates.

Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
