About Emerald Bombers Junior Football Club
Origins and Founding
The Emerald Junior Football Club (EJFC) has been providing junior footballers in the Emerald area of the Dandenong Ranges with a safe, supportive place to play Australian rules football since 1953. The club adopted the "Bombers" nickname from its red and black guernsey - the same iconic design worn by Essendon in the VFL and AFL - and that identity has stuck proudly through the decades. Founded with a clear focus on player development in a family-oriented environment, the EJFC has become a cornerstone of the Emerald sporting community.
Club History
Over more than 70 years of operation, the Emerald Bombers have competed in junior football across the Dandenong Ranges region, currently playing in the Outer East Football Netball competition. The club has expanded significantly in recent years to include mixed junior teams, dedicated junior boys age groups from under-11s to under-18s, and junior girls teams from under-13s to under-18s. A major milestone for the club was the completion of a brand-new clubrooms and sporting complex at Worrell Reserve, giving the Bombers a modern home base for seasons to come.
Home Ground
The Bombers call Worrell Reserve in Emerald their home. Located in the heart of Emerald at postcode 3782, the reserve is the club's central training and match day venue. The completion of the new clubrooms complex has transformed Worrell Reserve into a state-of-the-art community sporting hub, enhancing the experience for players, families, and volunteers across all age groups.
Community and Programs
The EJFC runs a comprehensive range of programs including NAB AFL Auskick (from age 7), All Abilities Auskick for children of all abilities, mixed junior teams, junior boys teams (under-11 to under-18), and junior girls teams (under-13 to under-18). In 2025 the club joined the Women's and Girls Charter to formally strengthen its commitment to girls' football across the region. The club relies on a dedicated team of volunteer coaches, managers, and committee members to keep the Bomber spirit alive season after season.
