About Heathmont Jets Junior Football Club
Origins and Founding
The Heathmont Jets Junior Football Club traces its origins to the merger of two established community clubs - the Heatherdale Junior Football Club and the Heathmont Junior Football Club - which joined forces in 1998 to form the Jets Junior Football Club. The senior arm of the organisation, the Heathmont Football Netball Club (the Jets), was established earlier in 1956 and has been a proud part of the Heathmont community ever since. The junior club was built on Heatherdale's heritage of community coaching and Heathmont's organisational structure under the Eastern Football Netball League umbrella, bringing together strengths from both founding clubs.
Club History
Since 1998, the Heathmont Jets Junior Football Club has grown into one of the active junior football clubs in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, fielding teams from under-8 through to under-18 in both boys and girls competitions. The Jets Juniors draw players from primary schools across the area including Rangeview, Antonio Park, Great Ryrie, Marlborough, Eastwood, Heathmont East, and St James, and field representatives from all local secondary colleges in their older age groups. A landmark achievement for the club was the opening in March 2023 of the newly developed Heatherdale Pavilion - a state-of-the-art two-ground facility on Purches Street in Mitcham.
Home Ground
The Jets Juniors are based at Heatherdale Reserve on Purches Street in Mitcham, which now features the Heatherdale Pavilion, opened in March 2023. The modern facility includes two grounds and provides a quality venue for all junior training and match days. The club also operates Auskick centres at both Heatherdale Pavilion and HE Parker Reserve in Heathmont, giving young players two convenient local entry points into the game.
Community and Programs
The Jets Juniors field a wide range of teams in the 2026 season: Mixed Under 8, Mixed Under 9, Boys Under 10, Boys Under 11, Girls Under 12, Boys Under 12, Boys Under 13, Boys Under 14, Boys Under 15, and Girls Under 18. The club's Auskick program gives kids as young as five a first taste of Australian rules football. Guided by a dedicated committee of volunteers, the Jets Juniors prioritise player development, community spirit, and a positive, family-friendly environment for every member.
Heathmont and Mitcham
Heathmont and Mitcham are suburban neighbours in Melbourne's eastern corridor, located approximately 25 kilometres from the CBD in the City of Maroondah. The area is characterised by established family neighbourhoods, good local schools, and a strong tradition of community sport. The Maroondah region is well-served by public transport and the Eastern Freeway, making it an accessible location for players and families travelling from across the east.
