About Helensburgh Tigers

Origins and Founding

The Helensburgh Tigers Rugby League Club has been a fixture of the Northern Illawarra community since their first recorded game in 1911, making them one of the oldest rugby league clubs in New South Wales. Based in the small mining and coastal township of Helensburgh, the club has served its community through major social changes over more than a century, and today has established itself as what the club describes as the club with "the largest supporter base for all local sports in the area." The Tigers compete in the Illawarra Rugby League competition, which is administered by the St George Illawarra region of the NSWRL.

Club History

The Tigers have compiled an impressive premiership record across first grade, reserves, and women's football. First grade premierships have been won in 1986, 1988, 1993, and 2015, while the club's reserve grade sides have taken out titles in 1993, 1999, 2012, and 2013. The club's women's side, known as the Tiger Lillies, has been particularly dominant in recent years. The full history of the club is detailed on the Helensburgh Tigers official website, which chronicles over a century of competitive rugby league in the Illawarra.

Home Ground

The Tigers play their home matches at Rex Jackson Oval on Walker Street, Helensburgh. The ground is a beloved community venue and the club encourages families to attend home matches, describing the match day experience as "widely considered one of the best in the League." The ground has hosted some memorable moments in Illawarra rugby league and is the social heart of the Helensburgh community on game day.

Community and Programs

The Helensburgh Tigers field junior, reserve grade, first grade, and women's sides, providing a complete rugby league pathway for players of all ages. The Tiger Lillies women's program has been a standout performer within the women's Illawarra competition. The club plays an important welfare role in the Northern Illawarra, offering connection, competition, and community identity for residents of Helensburgh and surrounding suburbs including Otford, Stanwell Park, and Clifton.

Helensburgh

Helensburgh is a small town in New South Wales, located approximately 58 kilometres south of Sydney and 20 kilometres north of Wollongong, within the Illawarra region. Sitting on the coastal escarpment south of the Royal National Park, Helensburgh has a population of around 3,500 and is known as a tight-knit, working-class community with deep mining and railroading roots. The town's community spirit is well represented by the Tigers, who have been a source of local pride since 1911. The Tigers compete in the Illawarra Rugby League competition and call Rex Jackson Oval, Helensburgh home. Visit the club website for fixtures and history, and follow them on Facebook for the latest news and updates.

    • Premium Coated Paper (1.6 m high) printed with permanent, waterproof inks—won’t run or fade, even in wet weather.

    • Eco-friendly & Recyclable: All banners are fully recyclable when the celebration is over.

    • Durable weatherproof sports banners printed on heavy-duty coated paper - these banners are not made of crepe paper.

    🔧 Preparation & Run-Through Setup - Expert instructions for break-through milestone banners.

    • Rigging Your Banner

      • Tape broomsticks or PVC pipe to each edge to keep the banner taut.

      • This creates a professional “run-through” presentation for game-day moments.

    • Creating the Break-Through Slits

      • Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.

      • Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.

    💡 Tips & Tricks

    • Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.

    • Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.

  • Return and Refund Policy

As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.

Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
