About Saints Cougars - Edenhope-Apsley Football Netball Club
Origins and Founding
The Edenhope-Apsley Football Netball Club was formed in 1999 through a merger of the Edenhope and Apsley football clubs. Apsley had been competing in regional football since 1937, and the combined club initially played in the Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara Football League (KNTFL), which spans the border region of western Victoria and South Australia. In 2007, Edenhope-Apsley made the move to join the Horsham District Football Netball League (HDFNL), taking on the "Saints" identity that the club has carried since. The combined junior and netball sections of the club are known as the Saints Cougars.

Club History
Since joining the HDFNL in 2007, the Saints have built a consistent presence in the competition, fielding sides across senior football, reserves, junior grades, and multiple netball divisions. The club achieved notable success in 2023, winning both the A Grade Netball premiership and the Under 14 Football premiership in the same season. Best and Fairest awards have been claimed by Tom McDonald in 2011 and Oscar McDonald in 2015. The HDFNL itself was founded in 1934, making it one of the longer-running district football leagues in western Victoria.

Home Ground
The Saints play their home football and netball fixtures at the Edenhope Showgrounds in Edenhope, which serves as the club's central facility. The ground is shared across all grades of football and netball, and hosts the club's home games against other HDFNL clubs including Kalkee, Harrow Balmoral, Laharum, Noradjuha Quantong, Natimuk United, Kaniva Leeor United, Pimpinio and others in the competition.

Community and Programs
Edenhope-Apsley FNC plays a vital role in the social and sporting life of the West Wimmera. The club fields senior football and reserves teams, multiple netball grades from A Grade through to junior divisions, and youth football programs. Drawing players from both Edenhope and Apsley, as well as surrounding farming communities, the club is one of the few organisations that bridges two distinct towns across a shared regional identity.

Edenhope and the West Wimmera
Edenhope is a rural town on the shores of Lake Wallace in western Victoria, situated along the Wimmera Highway approximately 30 kilometres east of the South Australian border. The town recorded a population of 942 in the 2021 Census and serves as the administrative centre of the West Wimmera Shire. Apsley, a smaller farming community to the south, shares its sporting and community identity with Edenhope through the combined club.
