About Kinglake Junior Football Club
Origins and Founding
Kinglake Junior Football Club, known to its players and families as the Lakers, fields junior teams out of the Kinglake Memorial Recreation Reserve in Kinglake Central, Victoria. Football has a long history in the town: the associated senior club played in the Northern Football Netball League (NFNL) between 1996 and 2007, before later transferring back into the same competition ahead of the 2023 season, as reported by the Northern Football Netball League.

Club History
The Junior Football Club was already an established NFNL member when Kinglake's senior club rejoined the league in 2023, with NFNL chief executive Peter McDougall noting at the time that the move would help create a one club approach between the junior and senior sides. According to the Australian Sports Foundation, the Lakers have expanded from fielding a single team to four, now catering for children aged 4 to 16 across Auskick and Under 9s through to Under 16s, with a female-only team targeted for introduction in the 2026 season.

Home Ground
The Lakers are based at the Kinglake Memorial Recreation Reserve in Kinglake Central, within the Kinglake Ranges north-east of Melbourne. The club fields sides across Auskick, Under 9s, Under 10s, Under 12s, Under 14s and Under 16s from this one ground, according to the club's own teams page.

Community and Programs
Community involvement sits at the heart of the club's identity. Its about page describes values of leadership, teamwork and community, with players and families regularly volunteering at local events. The junior club's growth from one team to four has also supported the parent Kinglake Football Netball Club, which runs senior football and netball programs, giving Kinglake families a pathway from Auskick through to open age football and netball.

Kinglake
Kinglake Central sits within the broader Kinglake township area, in the Shire of Murrindindi, about 56 kilometres north-east of Melbourne's CBD in the Kinglake Ranges. The wider Kinglake area recorded a population of 1,662 at the 2021 census and was one of the towns hit hardest by the Black Saturday bushfires of 7 February 2009, according to Wikipedia. In the years since, community organisations including the Junior Football Club have played a part in the town's rebuilding, giving local kids a reason to get outside, get active and stay connected with their neighbours.
