About Lismore Swans Football Club
Origins and Founding
The Lismore Swans Football Club traces its roots to the Lismore Kangaroos, one of the four foundation clubs of the Summerland Australian Football League (SAFL) when it was established in 1984. The Kangaroos dominated the early competition, winning five consecutive SAFL premierships from 1986 to 1990. In 2002, following financial difficulties, the Lismore Kangaroos merged with the Goonellabah Swans to form the Lismore Swans, continuing Lismore's presence in the Northern Rivers football competition under a new identity.

Club History
Since the 2002 merger, the Lismore Swans have competed as a unified club, building on the combined heritage of both predecessor clubs. In 2011, the Swans claimed their first premiership as a merged entity, defeating Tweed Coast Tigers 17.10 (112) to 16.8 (104) in a thrilling SAFL grand final. When the Summerland AFL folded at the end of 2011, the Swans transitioned into the AFL Queensland competition, currently competing in the QFA Northern Rivers division. The club also fields senior women's and junior teams, making it a broad community football organisation for the Lismore area. The Lismore Swans junior program, established in the early 2000s, provides a pathway from the early years of school through to senior level.

Home Ground
The Swans play their home games at Gloria Mortimer Oval in Lismore, one of the Northern Rivers' dedicated football venues. The ground has been associated with Lismore football since the SAFL's founding year of 1984 and remains the Swans' base for home and away matches. The junior club also uses Mortimer Oval as their home ground, keeping the club's entire football family under one roof.

Community and Programs
The Lismore Swans field men's and women's senior teams, alongside an extensive junior program covering all age groups from under-8s to under-17s. The Lismore Swans Junior AFL Club was established in the early 2000s and has become an important part of the Northern Rivers football community. The club works closely with local schools and the Northern Rivers AFL to grow participation in Australian rules football in a region where rugby league has traditionally dominated. The club's women's program reflects a broader commitment to providing football pathways for women and girls across the Lismore area.

Lismore, New South Wales
Lismore is the largest city in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, located approximately 160 kilometres south of Brisbane and 740 kilometres north of Sydney. With a population of around 44,000, Lismore is the regional centre for the Northern Rivers, home to Southern Cross University and a wide range of community services. The city sits on the Wilsons River and is surrounded by lush hinterland country. The Northern Rivers is predominantly rugby league territory, which makes the Swans' sustained AFL presence across four decades a genuine community achievement.
