About Maroochy Roos Junior Australian Football Club

Origins and Founding

The Maroochy Roos Junior Australian Football Club is based at 108 Fishermans Road, Maroochydore, on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. The junior club operates in association with the Maroochydore Australian Football Club (the senior Roos), one of the most decorated clubs in Sunshine Coast football history. The senior Maroochydore AFC was founded in 1969 and competed in the Sunshine Coast Australian Football League from 1970, making it one of the oldest clubs in Queensland's regional football competition. The Maroochy Roos Junior Club is described as the largest junior Australian football club on the Sunshine Coast.

Club History

The senior Maroochydore Roos have one of the most impressive records in Queensland football, winning 17 senior premierships across multiple competitions: 11 Sunshine Coast AFL titles (1970, 1971, 1972, 1974, 1978, 1979, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1986, 1989), 4 Brisbane AFL flags (1993, 1994, 1995, 1996), and 2 QFA Division 1 premierships (2017, 2018). The QAFLW women's side won the 2016 QWAFA premiership. Notable AFL players to emerge from the Maroochydore club include Josh Drummond (Brisbane Lions, 2005-2012), Noah Cumberland (Richmond, 2020-2024), Carter Michael (Brisbane Lions, 2022-2024), and Ty Gallop (Brisbane Lions, 2025-present). On the women's side, Shannon Campbell, Belle Dawes, Lily Postlethwaite, and Kate Surman have all gone on to AFL Women's careers after starting their football at Maroochydore. The junior club provides the primary development pathway into these senior ranks.

Home Ground

The Maroochy Roos Junior Club is based at the Maroochydore Multisports Complex, which also serves as the senior club's home ground. The complex at Fishermans Road, Maroochydore, has a capacity of approximately 5,000 and hosts multiple sporting codes. The facility's central location within Maroochydore makes it easily accessible for families across the Sunshine Coast's northern suburbs and hinterland areas. Senior training nights and match days at the complex give junior players the opportunity to engage directly with the senior club environment.

Community and Programs

The Maroochy Roos Junior Club offers football pathways for boys and girls across a range of junior age groups, including the NAB AFL Auskick program for the youngest participants. The junior club maintains a strong connection to AFL Queensland's development programs, consistent with the Sunshine Coast's growing profile as a talent pathway for the Brisbane Lions academy. The club's size - the largest junior club on the Sunshine Coast - reflects the rapid population growth of the Maroochydore region and the continued expansion of Australian football in Queensland.

Maroochydore

Maroochydore is the commercial and administrative hub of the Sunshine Coast region in south-east Queensland, located approximately 100 kilometres north of Brisbane's CBD. The suburb sits at the mouth of the Maroochy River on the Coral Sea coast and recorded a population of around 14,000 in the 2021 census, though the broader Sunshine Coast local government area exceeds 350,000 residents. Maroochydore is home to Sunshine Coast Airport and serves as the centre of the region's retail, business, and government activity, with rapid development occurring in recent decades as one of Queensland's fastest-growing regions.

    📄 Material & Construction

    • Premium Coated Paper (1.6 m high) printed with permanent, waterproof inks—won’t run or fade, even in wet weather.

    • Eco-friendly & Recyclable: All banners are fully recyclable when the celebration is over.

    • Durable weatherproof sports banners printed on heavy-duty coated paper - these banners are not made of crepe paper.

    🔧 Preparation & Run-Through Setup - Expert instructions for break-through milestone banners.

    • Rigging Your Banner

      • Tape broomsticks or PVC pipe to each edge to keep the banner taut.

      • This creates a professional “run-through” presentation for game-day moments.

    • Creating the Break-Through Slits

      • Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.

      • Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.

    💡 Tips & Tricks

    • Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.

    • Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.

  • Return and Refund Policy
