About Mazenod Old Collegians Football Club
Origins and Founding
The Mazenod Old Collegians Football Club was established in 1977 by former students of Mazenod College in Mulgrave, with the club playing its first season of competitive football in 1978 under the Eastern Suburban Churches Football Association (ESCFA). The club was founded on the collegians tradition - bringing together alumni of a Catholic school community to continue their sporting bonds beyond school years. In those early ESCFA years the Nodders built a strong foundation, winning multiple premierships before making the step up in competition.
Club History
Mazenod OCFC joined the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) in 1989 and wasted no time making an impression. The club claimed VAFA senior premierships in 1991, 1992, 1993, and 2000, and has continued winning silverware across multiple grades in the decades since, including a VAFA C senior premiership in 2016 and a Division 3 Thirds flag in 2022. The club also fields a competitive women's team, which claimed a Development 3 premiership in 2017. Club stalwarts such as Peter Hall (306 games), Peter Riley (300 games), and four-time Best and Fairest Neil Robinson are celebrated figures in the club's proud history, documented in detail on the club's history page.
Home Ground
The Nodders train and play at Central Reserve, located on the corner of Springvale and Waverley Roads in Glen Waverley. The ground is shared between senior men's and reserve sides, with the women's team also using Central Reserve and Mazenod College's facilities. Central Reserve is a well-established suburban oval that has served as the Nodders' home since the club's move into the VAFA.
Community and Programs
Mazenod OCFC runs senior men's, reserves, under-19, and women's teams, giving players at every level a pathway to participate in quality VAFA football. The club maintains strong ties to its Old Collegians roots while welcoming players from across the south-east Melbourne community. Regular social events, milestone nights, and a strong volunteer network keep the off-field culture just as vibrant as the on-field competition.
Glen Waverley
Glen Waverley is a major suburban hub in Melbourne's south-east, situated approximately 25 kilometres from the CBD in the City of Monash. Known for its shopping precinct, strong school community, and multicultural character, Glen Waverley has grown significantly since the 1960s and is now home to around 45,000 residents. The suburb is well connected by train on the Glen Waverley line and is surrounded by established family neighbourhoods that form the natural supporter base for the Nodders.
