About Old Ivanhoe Grammarians Football Club
Origins and Founding
Old Ivanhoe Grammarians Football Club joined the Victorian Amateur Football Association in 1964, entering in F Grade. The club's first ever game was against St Patrick's, with John Dawson scoring its first goal, as recorded in the club's own history page. The club has played under the nickname the Hoers ever since, a name confirmed on the VAFA club listing.

Club History
The Reserves claimed the club's first VAFA premiership in 1972, and both the seniors and reserves won D-Grade flags together in 1973. A second senior premiership followed in 1987 against St Kevins, before back-to-back premierships in D and C grades in 1994 and 1995 lifted the Hoers into B-Grade. The club reached A-Grade for the first time in 1999, and after a third promotion attempt succeeded in 2005 with an A-Grade Grand Final win over De La Salle. Old Ivanhoe was promoted to Premier B in 2013 after defeating Mazenod, and 2023 produced the club's most successful season on record, with the seniors, reserves and Under 19s all winning their respective Grand Finals.

Home Ground
The Hoers play home matches at Chelsworth Park on Irvine Road in Ivanhoe. The ground takes its name from the historic Chelsworth homestead, built in 1860 on land farmed since 1846, with the property now forming part of the neighbouring Ivanhoe golf course.

Community and Programs
Old Ivanhoe fields Senior, Reserves and Under 19 teams in the VAFA each season, and the club prides itself on welcoming players regardless of experience, from first-timers to long-serving veterans. Home games at Chelsworth Park are supported by club lunches and sponsor events that bring the wider Old Ivanhoe community together throughout the season.

Ivanhoe
Ivanhoe is a leafy suburb of Melbourne about 9 kilometres northeast of the CBD, within the City of Banyule. The suburb recorded a population of 13,374 at the 2021 census, and is known for its tree-lined streets, the Ivanhoe Estate parklands and its train station dating back to 1888.
