About Pinjarra Tigers Junior Football Club
Origins and Founding
The Pinjarra Football and Netball Club - home of the Mighty Tigers - was established in 1911, making it one of the oldest and most enduring sporting institutions in the Peel region of Western Australia. The club competed in the Murray Districts Football League for decades before joining the Metropolitan Football League (MFL) in 1989. When the MFL evolved into the Peel Football and Netball League (PFL) in 1992, Pinjarra was a founding member, and the club has competed continuously at that level ever since. The junior program draws players from across the Pinjarra township and surrounding rural communities, feeding talent into a senior club with over 110 years of history.
Club History
The Tigers hold the record for the most premierships in Peel Football and Netball League history, having claimed 8 league flags in 1994, 2001, 2002, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018, and 2022. The club has also added a Reserves premiership in 2011, Colts premierships in 1996 and 2018, and back-to-back Women's premierships in 2022 and 2023, underscoring the depth of the entire football program. Stephen Martin played 311 games for Pinjarra in the PFL - the fourth most in league history. The club has also produced AFL-level talent, including Brock O'Brien who went on to play for Fremantle, and Harley Bennell who represented both the Gold Coast Suns and Fremantle Dockers.
Home Ground
The Tigers call Sir Ross McLarty Oval home, a well-established community ground in the heart of Pinjarra. The oval is the focal point of football activity in the town, hosting league, reserves, colts, women's, and junior matches across the season. Sir Ross McLarty Oval is named in honour of a former Premier of Western Australia, reflecting the civic importance of the ground to the local community. Junior matches played there give young Tigers their first taste of the atmosphere and traditions that have defined the club for more than a century.
Community and Programs
The Pinjarra Tigers Junior Football Club caters to approximately 270 young players across its age groups, providing a structured and supportive pathway from the earliest junior age groups through to the senior ranks. The junior program operates under the umbrella of the broader Pinjarra Football and Netball Club, which also fields women's and netball teams, making it a genuine multi-sport community hub. The club prides itself on its family-friendly culture, and match days at Sir Ross McLarty Oval are a staple of community life in Pinjarra throughout the winter months.
Pinjarra
Pinjarra is a town in the Peel region of Western Australia, situated approximately 82 kilometres south of Perth along the South Western Highway. With a population of around 10,240 people as recorded in the 2021 Census, Pinjarra is the administrative centre of the Murray Regional Council and serves as a key hub for the rural communities of the mid-Peel area. The town is set beside the Murray River and is known for its historic townscape, the 1834 Battle of Pinjarra heritage site, and the Alcoa alumina refinery which is a major local employer. Football has long been central to Pinjarra community life, and the Tigers sit at the heart of that tradition.
The Tigers compete in the Peel Football and Netball League and call Sir Ross McLarty Oval, Pinjarra home. Visit the club website for more information, follow them on Facebook, and follow them on Instagram for news and match day updates.

-
Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
