Pukatja Magpies Banners - Remote Footy Pride, Celebrated Properly

The Pukatja Magpies are one of the most passionate and community-spirited football clubs in Australia, playing in the remote APY Lands of South Australia, and FootyBanners.com is proud to help the Magpies celebrate every milestone with a custom banner that honours that unique spirit.

Simple to Order

Choose from Single Player, Two Player, Team, or Grand Final banner options and provide the player's name, surname, guernsey number, and milestone (for example, Troy Reid, #5, 50 Games). Banners are produced with permanent inks on heavy-duty paper that holds up through a scorching South Australian outback afternoon at the ground.

Two Players, One Banner

When two Magpies players hit the same milestone in the same game, our Two Player banner celebrates them both in one great design. Provide both players' names and guernsey numbers and we'll take care of everything.

Team Banners for Group Celebrations

For groups of 3 to 6 players celebrating at the same time, our Team Banner option covers everyone in one powerful design. Set a top-line message like "Up the Magpies!" and send your squad running through with pride.

Wall Keepsake Banners

Available in Small, Medium, and Large, our Wall Keepsake Banners are printed on thick recyclable paper with waterproof inks. A brilliant keepsake for the Magpies clubrooms or a home display to remember a great career at Pukatja.

Grand Final Banners

When the Pukatja Magpies are playing for the APY League title, step up with a Grand Final banner in 4.5m or 5.5m. Top and bottom text is fully customised for the Pukatja Magpies Football Club. Contact us for design support ahead of the day.

About Pukatja Magpies Football Club

Origins and Founding

The Pukatja Magpies are an Australian rules football club based in the remote community of Pukatja (also known as Ernabella) in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands of far north-west South Australia. The community's connection to the magpie runs deep - Port Adelaide FC noted during their 2015 WillPOWER community program visit that the magpie is the local totem, and Port-style football is a source of great community pride. The club competes in the SANFL APY League, a competition established in 2007 as a joint initiative by the Commonwealth and South Australian governments and the SANFL to promote active and healthy lifestyles across the APY Lands.

Club History

The SANFL APY League - previously known as the Far North West Sports League (FNWSL) - was formed in 2007 with eight community clubs across two conferences. Pukatja competed in the Eastern conference alongside Indulkana, Mimili and Anilalya. The Magpies won their first FNWSL senior football premiership in 2008, defeating Mimili 10.4 (64) to 8.6 (54) in the grand final. They added further football premierships in 2015 (defeating Indulkana) and 2016 (defeating Fregon). The club is also a force in the league's softball competition, with the Pukatja Magpies women's softball team winning the APY League softball grand final in 2022. A notable alumni is Amos Frank, who was selected by the Hawthorn Football Club in the AFL 2012 Rookie Draft at pick 34, becoming a prominent pathway example from the APY Lands to elite football.

Home Ground

The Magpies play their home games at Pukatja, which sits at an elevation of approximately 703 metres in the eastern Musgrave Ranges. The oval is located about 330 kilometres south-west of Alice Springs and approximately 1,400 kilometres by road from Adelaide. A major road upgrade of the Main Access Road between the Stuart Highway and Pukatja, funded by federal and state governments, has been under way since 2016 to improve community access. A permit is required to visit any community in the APY Lands, as they are freehold land owned by the Anangu people.

Community and Programs

The SANFL APY League competition is central to community life across the APY Lands, with clubs from communities including Amata, Fregon, Indulkana, Mimili, Pipalyatjara and Wintjalangu. The SANFL works with these clubs to support Indigenous youth through football and softball programs. Pukatja is also home to Ernabella Arts, established in 1948 and Australia's oldest continuously running Indigenous art centre, making it one of the most culturally significant communities in central Australia. The Ernabella Anangu School provides education from reception through to senior high school, and TAFE facilities for the APY Lands are based at Pukatja.

Pukatja (Ernabella)

Pukatja - formerly Ernabella - is an Aboriginal community in the APY Lands in the Far North region of South Australia. The community was established as a Presbyterian mission in 1937 and was handed over to the Aboriginal community in 1974, with the settlement renamed Pukatja. The population recorded 412 residents in the 2016 census. The area sits within the eastern Musgrave Ranges and is about 30 kilometres south of the Northern Territory border. The community does not observe daylight saving time, running on Australian Central Standard Time in line with Darwin rather than Adelaide.

The Magpies compete in the SANFL APY League and call Pukatja their home. Follow the SANFL APY League on Facebook for news, match results and updates from across the APY Lands competitions.

  • Footy Banner Information

    📄 Material & Construction

    • Premium Coated Paper (1.6 m high) printed with permanent, waterproof inks—won’t run or fade, even in wet weather.

    • Eco-friendly & Recyclable: All banners are fully recyclable when the celebration is over.

    • Durable weatherproof sports banners printed on heavy-duty coated paper - these banners are not made of crepe paper.

    🔧 Preparation & Run-Through Setup - Expert instructions for break-through milestone banners.

    • Rigging Your Banner

      • Tape broomsticks or PVC pipe to each edge to keep the banner taut.

      • This creates a professional “run-through” presentation for game-day moments.

    • Creating the Break-Through Slits

      • Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.

      • Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.

    💡 Tips & Tricks

    • Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.

    • Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.

  • Return and Refund Policy

As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.

Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
