About Rochedale Ravens JAFC
Origins and Founding
The Rochedale Ravens Junior Australian Football Club was founded in 2009, established with the support of AFL Queensland and the local Rochedale State School community. What began as a small group of passionate families and young players seeking a pathway into the game has grown into one of the more active junior AFL clubs in Brisbane's southern suburbs. The club was built around the principle of community-first football, with an emphasis on fun, inclusion and player development from the earliest age groups.
Club History
From its foundation in 2009, the Ravens gradually built a solid base of junior participants, catering to boys and girls aged 5 to 11. A landmark moment came in 2017 when the under-12 team reached the grand final, finishing as runners-up in a result that represented a major milestone for the still-young club. During 2020 and 2021, the club temporarily relocated from its home base due to facility changes, before proudly returning to Rochedale State School in 2022. In 2024, the Ravens launched their first under-11 girls team, marking a significant step in the expansion of girls' football in the local community. The club has maintained a close relationship with the Brisbane Lions, with AFL players from the premiership-winning Lions visiting training sessions to deliver skills clinics for young participants.
Home Ground
The Ravens are based at Rochedale State School, which serves as the club's training and match-day home. The school ground provides a safe, accessible location for families across the Rochedale, Eight Mile Plains and Mackenzie areas, and the club's return to this venue in 2022 marked a renewed chapter in the club's history. The setting reflects the community-embedded nature of the Ravens, with the school partnership reinforcing the club's role as a gateway into sport for local children.
Community and Programs
The Ravens run non-competitive Auskick and Footy4Fun sessions for children from the age of five, led by accredited and child-safe coaches who teach foundational skills including kicking, handballing and marking. The club supports a girls' pathway program, with female participants able to progress from Auskick into junior girls teams and, for those who develop further, into QAFLW academy and club pathways. The Ravens are affiliated with AFL Queensland and operate under the broader Auskick and junior football frameworks that underpin community-level football across the state.
Rochedale
Rochedale is an outer southern suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, located approximately 15 kilometres south of the Brisbane CBD. The 2021 census recorded a population of approximately 7,633 residents. The suburb is primarily residential in character and forms part of the Logan Road and Rochedale Road corridor connecting southern Brisbane to the Logan region. The area has seen sustained residential growth and is home to several primary and secondary schools, making it a natural base for junior community sport programs such as the Ravens.
The Ravens compete in AFL Queensland's junior competitions and train at Rochedale State School. Learn more at rochedaleravens.com.au and follow the club on Facebook.

Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
