About St Kilda City Junior Football Club
Origins and Founding
St Kilda City Junior Football Club is affiliated with the St Kilda City Football Club, an organisation whose roots stretch back to 1946, when the club was founded as the Inkerman Rovers playing social football. In 1951 the club relocated to Alma Road Park in St Kilda and changed its name to Balaclava. A further move to the Peanut Farm Reserve in 1952 coincided with the club joining the metropolitan league competition. In 1958, the club became affiliated with the St Kilda Football Club, adopting St Kilda colours - an association that continues to the present day, though the formal affiliation with the AFL club later lapsed when St Kilda moved its base to Moorabbin.
Club History
St Kilda City joined the South Eastern Suburban Football League in 1964. In 1978 the organisation expanded to include cricket, becoming St Kilda City Sports Club. The new pavilion at the Peanut Farm Reserve was officially opened on 13 December 1981 by St Kilda Mayor Colin Bell JP. In 2002 the senior club won its first Division 1 SFL premiership, defeating Balwyn at Springvale Oval. After relegation to Division 2, the club won the 2005 premiership and returned to Division 1. Between 2007 and 2010, the City competed in four consecutive Division 1 grand finals, winning three. The Colts program has produced five premierships, while the netball section introduced in 2013 won its first premiership in 2015. Alumni who played at elite level include Andy Demetriou (later AFL CEO), Ezra Poyas (West Coast Eagles), Danny Jacobs, Nathan Carroll, and Craig Williams (All-Australian representative for SA).
Home Ground
The club is based at Peanut Farm Reserve in Elwood, which has been the club's home since 1952. The reserve sits beside the foreshore parklands between St Kilda and Elwood, providing an attractive setting for training and match days. The 1981 pavilion remains the centrepiece of the club's facilities and has been the base for both senior and junior programs across the decades.
Community and Programs
The St Kilda City Junior Football Club provides structured football pathways for young players across the inner-southern suburbs of Melbourne. The junior club is registered with the SMJFL and gives players a pathway into the senior club's ranks. The club's junior Facebook page has attracted more than 430 followers from the local community, reflecting the ongoing interest in junior sport in the inner-city belt of Melbourne's bayside suburbs.
St Kilda and Elwood
St Kilda is one of Melbourne's most distinctive inner-city suburbs, situated approximately 6 kilometres south of the CBD along Port Phillip Bay. Known for its beach, heritage architecture, and vibrant arts and hospitality scene, it is also an area with a long tradition of community sport. Adjacent Elwood is a quieter residential suburb of similar character, home to the Peanut Farm Reserve. Together they form one of the most tightly woven community sport landscapes in inner Melbourne.
St Kilda City compete in the Southern Football League and call Peanut Farm Reserve, Elwood home. Visit the club at stkildacity.com and follow the junior club on Facebook.

-
-
Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
