About Traralgon Football Netball Club
Origins and Founding
Traralgon Football Club was founded in 1883, and its first recorded match that year was a win over Warragul. The club twice hosted VFL side Essendon in the 1880s, losing in 1885 before famously defeating them 8.12 (60) to 3.5 (23) in 1886.

Club History
After playing across a series of Gippsland competitions, including a 1907 merger with the Rovers to briefly form Traralgon United, the Maroons settled into the Latrobe Valley Football League from 1954, a competition they have contested almost continuously since as today's Gippsland League. Traralgon has won 20 senior premierships, from 1900 through to a 2024 Gippsland League flag over Leongatha, and briefly played in the VFL itself between 1996 and 1997 before withdrawing after two seasons. The club has produced a long line of VFL/AFL talent, including Brownlow Medallist Kelvin Templeton and dual premiership forward Bernie Quinlan, both recruited by Footscray, through to more recent AFL players Tim Membrey and Jordan Cunico.

Home Ground
The Maroons have played at Traralgon Recreation Reserve on Whittakers Road since the ground first hosted the club in 1890, a site now shared with the Traralgon Showgrounds.

Community and Programs
Traralgon Junior Football Club was formed in 1918 to give the town's youth a footballing outlet, and the club today fields junior boys' and girls' sides, including a Youth Girls team, alongside its senior football and netball programs.

Traralgon
Traralgon is a city of around 26,907 people (2021 census), the largest in Victoria's Latrobe Valley and about 164 kilometres east of Melbourne in the Gippsland region. First settled under a pastoral lease in the 1840s, the area's name is believed to derive from a Gunai/Kurnai phrase meaning 'the river of little fish'.
