About Tullamarine Demons Football Club
Origins and Founding
The Tullamarine Football Club was formed in 1974 through the merger of two Ascot Vale clubs - Essendon Baptist St John's and the Ascot Vale Presbyterians - with the vision of establishing a football presence in the then-developing suburb of Tullamarine. Initially known as Essendon-Tullamarine, the club dropped the "Essendon" from its name in 1981 as it settled into its identity as Tullamarine's own club. The merger's success was evident almost immediately, as detailed on the club's official website.
Club History
Few clubs in Victorian community football can match the Tullamarine Demons' record of five consecutive Essendon District Football League (EDFL) A-Grade premierships from 1975 to 1979 - a feat that remains an EDFL record to this day. The club won its first B-Grade title in 1981 after rebranding as Tullamarine, and added further premierships in 1993 and 2003. A strong force in EDFL Division 1 throughout the 2010s, the Demons also field a successful women's team.
