About Upper Ferntree Gully Football Netball Club
Origins and Founding
Upper Ferntree Gully Football Club was founded in late 1948, playing its first match in 1949 in the Mountain District Football Association. The club's original home was a cow paddock off Talaskia Road, with an old railway shed serving as change rooms, before the side moved to Kings Park in 1957.

Club History
Upper Gully won its first senior premiership in 1958 and has claimed five flags in total, the most recent in 2016 under coach Chad Rogers, after joining the Eastern Football League in 1966. History was made at the end of 2016 when two Upper Gully players, Josh Begley and Tim Smith, were drafted into the AFL by Essendon and Melbourne respectively, debuting in 2018 and 2017 to become the club's first players to reach the elite level since Mark Lisle in the 1980s. The senior club merged with the St Johns-Bluebirds Junior Football Club, formed in 1972, in 1998 to mark the club's 50th anniversary.

Home Ground
The Kings, as they are known, have played at Kings Park on Willow Road in Upper Ferntree Gully since 1957, with the junior club based at nearby Dobson Park. Training lights were added at Kings Park in the 1980s, followed by lights on the top oval in 2019.

Community and Programs
Upper Ferntree Gully fields junior sides through to seniors, and formed a netball team in 2015 to compete in the Eastern Football Netball League, winning its first netball premiership in 2019. The club welcomed its first Under 12 girls' team in 2016 and fielded a senior women's side alongside three girls' teams from 2017.

Upper Ferntree Gully
Upper Ferntree Gully is a suburb of about 3,417 people (2021 census), located 32 kilometres east of Melbourne's CBD in the Dandenong Ranges foothills. Once the terminus of Melbourne's electric train line, the area was a popular holiday destination for day trippers escaping to "the hills" well into the 1930s.
