About Wanderers Two Blues Rugby Club
Origins and Founding
The Wanderers Rugby Club was founded in 1924 and has been proudly representing Newcastle in the Hunter Rugby Union competition for over a century. Known as the Two Blues, Wanderers are recognised as the most decorated club in the Newcastle and Hunter Rugby Union competition. The club's first Australian representative was Charles "Tug" Morrissey, who earned a Wallaby cap in the 1920s. From its earliest years, Wanderers established a reputation for producing elite rugby talent, with players from the club's foundation era representing NSW and Australia throughout the 1920s and 1930s.

Club History
Over their 100-year history, Wanderers have won 15 Hunter Rugby Union Premier 1 premierships, with titles in 1945, 1949, 1955, 1956, 1960, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1975, 1981, 1993, 2001, 2005, 2009, and 2014, as recorded in the Hunter Rugby major premiers records. The women's program has added a further nine premierships. From 1925 to 2022, twenty Wanderers senior players have represented Australia at national level, including twelve full Wallabies and one player each in the Australian Under-19 and Under-21 teams. Notable alumni include Bill Gardner (Wallabies, 1950s), Terry Curley, and Ron Meadows, who famously played in Australia's 1957 win over the All Blacks. In the modern era, players such as Matt Brown and Nathan Croft progressed through Wanderers to NSW Country and representative honours.

Home Ground
Wanderers call No. 2 Sportsground home, located at the corner of Parry and Smith Streets in Newcastle West, NSW. The ground is one of the most iconic rugby venues in New South Wales and is also home to Hunter Rugby Union competitions. The facility features grandstand seating and serves as the hub of club rugby in the Hunter region. Wanderers players and supporters regard it as "The Fortress" - a home ground advantage the club defends with great pride throughout each season.

Community and Programs
Wanderers field men's Grade, Colts, and Women's teams, and have a thriving junior rugby program that feeds players through to the senior club. In 2020, Wanderers entered a sister club relationship with Western Sydney Two Blues Rugby, expanding the 2Blue network across New South Wales. The club also participates in community netball, basketball, and cricket competitions, making it a broad sporting community hub in the Newcastle area. The Wanderers model is built on developing local talent and retaining players across their careers.

Newcastle West is an inner suburb of Newcastle, situated approximately 160 kilometres north of Sydney. It lies at the heart of the Hunter Region, one of Australia's most significant regional centres with a population of approximately 650,000 people across the wider Hunter Valley. Newcastle West is home to No. 2 Sportsground and other key civic and sporting infrastructure. The Hunter Region has a deep rugby union tradition, with Wanderers at its centre for over a century.
