About Warrack Eagles Football Club

Origins and Founding

The Warrack Eagles Football Club was formed in 2001 through the merger of two proud Wimmera-region clubs: the Warracknabeal Lions and the Brim Eagles. The Warracknabeal Lions were one of the foundation clubs of competitive football in the Wimmera, with roots stretching back to the 1870s. Warracknabeal entered the Wimmera Football League in 1937 and accumulated five WFL senior premierships over their history - in 1947, 1953, 1966, 1977, and 1994. The Brim Eagles, based at Brim Recreation Reserve, were established in the 1890s and competed in the Southern Mallee Football League before joining the Mallee Football League (Victoria) in 1997. The two clubs amalgamated ahead of the 2001 season to form the Warrack Eagles, combining the resources and traditions of both communities into a single competitive outfit.

Club History

The Warrack Eagles hit the ground running after their formation. In 2002 - their first full season as a merged club - the Eagles claimed the Wimmera Football Netball League (WFNL) senior premiership, an extraordinary achievement for a newly amalgamated side. The club fields both football and netball teams, competing annually across WFNL divisions in a league that encompasses the towns of the Wimmera region from Ararat to Nhill. The Eagles have maintained a consistent presence in the league since 2001 and continue to represent the combined communities of Warracknabeal and Brim at the highest level of Wimmera country football.

Home Ground

The Warrack Eagles' primary home ground is Anzac Park in Warracknabeal. The club also retains use of the Brim Recreation Reserve in Brim, reflecting the dual-community nature of the merged club. Anzac Park in Warracknabeal has a long history as a premier venue in Wimmera country football - its playing surface has been cited by visitors as among the best in the region. The ground hosts WFNL home-and-away fixtures as well as finals matches and community events throughout the season.

Community and Programs

The Warrack Eagles Football and Netball Club is a central institution in the Warracknabeal community. The club runs both football and netball programs for members across all age groups, from junior pathways through to senior competition. As a football-netball club, the Eagles are one of the social anchors of Warracknabeal, drawing families, volunteers, and supporters from across the Yarriambiack shire to their home ground throughout the WFNL season. The club's social calendar, listed on their website, is a reflection of the strong community ties that bind the club to the towns it represents.

Warracknabeal

Warracknabeal is a town in the Victorian wheatbelt, situated on the banks of the Yarriambiack Creek approximately 330 kilometres northwest of Melbourne. The town serves as the business and services hub of the northern Wimmera and southern Mallee districts. According to Wikipedia, the town's name is believed to derive from an Aboriginal expression meaning "place of big gums shading the water hole", and its Post Office first opened on 1 September 1861. Warracknabeal is known for its historic streetscapes, including an 1872 prison cell built from red and yellow gum, a four-storey water tower from 1886, and an agricultural machinery museum. The town is the administrative centre of the Yarriambiack Shire Council.

The Eagles compete in the Wimmera Football Netball League (WFNL) and call Anzac Park, Warracknabeal home. Visit the club website for fixtures, news, and membership information, and follow them on Facebook for the latest from Warracknabeal.

    • Rigging Your Banner

      • Tape broomsticks or PVC pipe to each edge to keep the banner taut.

      • This creates a professional “run-through” presentation for game-day moments.

    • Creating the Break-Through Slits

      • Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.

      • Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.

    💡 Tips & Tricks

    • Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.

    • Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
