About Brighton Beach Junior Football Club

Origins and Founding

Brighton Beach Junior Football Club was formed and incorporated in 2009 as a standalone junior football club serving the Bayside area of Melbourne. The club was established to meet the growing demand for junior AFL football in the Brighton, Elwood and surrounding beachside suburbs, providing a community-based, volunteer-run club catering to under-age footballers in one of Melbourne's most distinctive coastal communities. Since its formation in 2009, the club has expanded to cater to players across multiple junior age groups.

Club History

The Brighton Beach Kangaroos have grown steadily since their 2009 founding, fielding teams across age groups from under-8s through to under-16s over the years of their existence. The club has drawn on the participation of young players and families from across a broad catchment extending from Elwood to the north, Sandringham to the south, and Brighton East and Highett to the east. The club competes in the South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL), the peak body for junior AFL in Melbourne's southern suburbs. A well-known feature of the Brighton Beach football community is the club's connection to the North Melbourne Football Club's Kangaroos tradition, with former AFL players Sam Gibson and Sean Higgins - both famous Kangaroos - having been involved with the club in community capacity.

Home Ground

The Kangaroos are based at South Road Oval in Brighton, located next to the Brighton Beach train station. The ground is shared with Old Brighton Football Club in winter and the Brighton Cricket Club in summer, making it a year-round hub for sport in the Brighton community. The seaside location of South Road Oval gives the club a distinctive setting, with the Port Phillip Bay foreshore just metres away from the playing surface.

Community and Programs

Brighton Beach JFC is structured as a community-based, volunteer-run club, with a committee of local parents and volunteers managing all aspects of club administration and operations. The club draws on a network of local primary and secondary schools within its catchment area to attract new players and families. The Facebook page has more than 350 followers, with the club regularly posting match results, training notices and club news for its community membership.

Brighton Beach

Brighton Beach is a suburb within the City of Bayside in Melbourne's south-east, located approximately 14 kilometres south of the Melbourne CBD along the Port Phillip Bay foreshore. The broader Brighton area is one of Melbourne's most affluent and well-known suburbs, characterised by its beach boxes, esplanade foreshore, and prestigious residential streets. The area has a population of approximately 23,000 across the Brighton and Brighton East combined area at the 2021 census, with strong community sport participation across multiple codes.

The Kangaroos compete in the SMJFL and call South Road Oval, Brighton Beach home. Visit the club at brightonbeachjfc.com.au and follow on Facebook.

    • Premium Coated Paper (1.6 m high) printed with permanent, waterproof inks—won’t run or fade, even in wet weather.

    🔧 Preparation & Run-Through Setup - Expert instructions for break-through milestone banners.

    • Rigging Your Banner

      • Tape broomsticks or PVC pipe to each edge to keep the banner taut.

      • This creates a professional “run-through” presentation for game-day moments.

    • Creating the Break-Through Slits

      • Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.

      • Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.

    💡 Tips & Tricks

    • Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.

    • Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.

  • Return and Refund Policy

As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.

Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
