About West Preston Lakeside Football Club
Origins and Founding
The West Preston Lakeside Football Club - known as the Roosters - was formed on 23 March 1998 through the merger of two long-established Melbourne clubs: West Preston Football Club (founded 1948) and Reservoir-Lakeside Football Club (founded 1947). West Preston had started in the CYMS Football Association in 1948 before joining the YCW Football League in 1963 and eventually entering the Diamond Valley Football League (DVFL) in 1981. Reservoir-Lakeside had built a proud record in the DVFL, winning Division 1 premierships in 1965, 1975, and 1977, along with 16 reserves and thirds flags. By 1998, Reservoir-Lakeside was struggling to field teams and the two clubs voted to combine, forming one of the stronger merged clubs in Melbourne's northern corridor.
Club History
West Preston Lakeside hit the ground running after its 1998 formation, narrowly missing the finals in its debut season before winning the DVFL/NFL minor premiership in 2000. The first senior premiership came in 2003, defeating Montmorency, and a second was won in 2010 over Heidelberg. The club's most historic moment came in 2018 when West Preston Lakeside became the first club in the Northern Football Netball League (NFNL) to win men's and women's premierships in the same season, claiming grand final victories over Macleod (men's) and Montmorency (women's) in the same year. The club competes in Division 1 of the NFNL, one of Melbourne's most competitive suburban leagues. West Preston (the predecessor club) was also notable for producing more than 10 players who went on to play in the VFL.
Home Ground
The Roosters play their home games at J.E. Moore Park in Reservoir, a well-maintained community ground in Melbourne's northern suburbs. The facility has served as the merged club's home since 1998 and provides playing, training, and social facilities that support the club's full range of men's, women's, junior, and netball programs.
Community and Programs
West Preston Lakeside FC operates one of the more comprehensive club structures in the NFNL, with senior men's and women's teams, junior football teams, and netball teams all running under the one banner. The club's development pathways allow junior players from the Reservoir area to progress through the grades and into senior competition. The women's program has been particularly strong, finishing third in the NFNL Women's competition in 2024 after a first-place home-and-away season.
Reservoir
Reservoir is a suburb in Melbourne's northern corridor, located approximately 10 kilometres north of the CBD in the City of Darebin. Home to around 50,000 residents, Reservoir is one of Melbourne's most culturally diverse suburbs with a strong working-class and multicultural heritage. The suburb is served by the South Morang and Mernda train lines and is known for its community sporting clubs, markets, and local shopping strips along High Street and Spring Street.
The Roosters compete in the Northern Football Netball League and call J.E. Moore Park, Reservoir home. Visit the West Preston Lakeside FC website for membership and fixtures information.
Footy Banner Information
All Footy Banners are printed on 1.6 Metre high coated paper using solvent inks which will not run, even if they get wet.
We recommend taping broomsticks to the ends of the banner to hold it flat whilst the player runs through it. if you cut vertical slits in the banner in the centre, it creates a weak spot where it will break and look best when run through.
On a windy day, cut smaller vertical slits in the Footy Banner so if the wind catches it, it doesn't rip too soon!
Return and Refund Policy
As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.
Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
