About Eltham Football Club
Origins and Founding
Eltham Football Club, known as the Panthers, was officially formed in 1907 when Police Constable "Ike" Stephens convened a meeting to provide entertainment and an outlet for young men in the Eltham district. The club had been playing informal social matches in the area since around 1904 against neighbouring sides at Kangaroo Ground, Diamond Creek, and Greensborough. The Panthers currently compete in Division 2 of the Northern Football Netball League (NFNL), based at Eltham Central Park and Susan Street Oval in Eltham, approximately 23 kilometres north-east of Melbourne's CBD.
Club History
The Panthers have a rich competition history spanning more than a century. In Division 1, the club won premierships in 1930, 1932, 1949, 1953, 1969, and 1970. A golden era from 1969 to 1974 produced four premierships in six seasons. The club has also been a consistent force at Second Division level, with flags in 1982, 1989, 1995, 1997, 2000, 2002, and most recently in 2023 when the Panthers defeated Diamond Creek by 41 points at Preston City Oval. That 2023 premiership, under coach Tim Bongetti, erased the pain of a grand final defeat the previous year and was celebrated as one of the club's most memorable recent achievements. Despite a pattern of oscillating between divisions, the Panthers have maintained a competitive presence in NFNL football across all eras.
Home Ground
The Panthers play at Eltham Central Park and Susan Street Oval, both located in Eltham. Eltham Central Park has been the club's primary competition venue through much of its modern history, and has hosted grand finals for the NFNL during its 100-year history. The Panthers played at Eltham Park in the league's early decades before transitioning to the current ground configuration.
Community and Programs
Eltham FC fields senior men's and reserves teams in the NFNL, and has historically run a strong junior and youth program within the Diamond Valley and Northern Football associations. The club's women's program has also grown as part of the NFNL Women's competition. The Panthers draw their supporter base from across Eltham and surrounding communities including Diamond Creek, Greensborough, Kangaroo Ground, and Panton Hill, making them a central institution in the outer north-eastern Melbourne footy community.

Eltham is a suburb of Melbourne, located approximately 23 kilometres north-east of the CBD in the City of Nillumbik.
