About Hadfield Football Club
Origins and Founding
The Hadfield Football Club, known as the Haddy Hawks, traces its origins to 1961 when the Hadfield Community Youth Club (HCYC) was formed to provide football for young people in the Hadfield area. The club played at Reddish Reserve in East Glenroy. In 1971, with a dedicated group of local parents and volunteers, HCYC established a senior football team, rebranding the club as the Hadfield Football Club with the Hawks nickname, and affiliated with the Essendon District Football League. In that first senior season, the Hawks won the C Grade premiership, setting an early benchmark for the club's competitive spirit.
Club History
The Hawks have claimed three senior EDFL premierships: C Grade in 1971, B Grade in 1979, B Grade in 1989, and C Grade in 2015. The club's most notable alumni are Anthony Rock, who went on to play at North Melbourne and Hawthorn in the VFL/AFL, and Darren Ogier, who represented Carlton, North Melbourne, and the Sydney Swans. In 2025, Jack Dodorico earned selection with the Calder Cannons, continuing the club's tradition of producing talent for higher-level competition. Following the 1987 season, the club relocated to its current home at Martin Reserve on Box Forest Road, Hadfield.
Home Ground
The Hawks play their home matches at Martin Reserve, Box Forest Road, Hadfield 3046. The reserve provides the club with a home base in the heart of the suburb, hosting football training, home games, and club social events throughout the season. The Hadfield Sporting Club, which shares the facility, provides social infrastructure for members and supporters.
Community and Programs
The Hadfield Football Club competes in the Northern Football Netball League (NFNL) and operates senior men's and junior programs. The club is closely connected to the Hadfield Netball Club and Pascoe Vale Hadfield Cricket Club, forming part of a broader community sporting network centred on Martin Reserve. The club values community development and continues to produce players for higher-level competition through its junior pathways.
Hadfield
Hadfield is a well-established residential suburb in Melbourne's north, located approximately 13 kilometres from the CBD within the City of Moreland. With a population of 6,269 at the 2021 Census, the suburb sits between Coburg North and Glenroy and is characterised by post-war housing and a strong multicultural community. Hadfield is well-served by public transport and is part of the rapidly changing northern suburbs corridor of Melbourne.
