Kew Bears Banners - Inner Eastern Suburbs Football Milestones Made Memorable
Whether a Bear is hitting 100 games or the club is charging for finals at Victoria Park, FootyBanners.com creates custom banners that celebrate every milestone with the pride that Kew FC demands. Order yours today and honour your player in style.
Simple to Order
Choose from Single Player, Two Player, Team, or Grand Final banner styles. For a player banner, provide the name, guernsey number, and milestone - for example, Alex King, #3, 150 Games. All banners use permanent inks on heavy-duty paper that stands firm through a bitter Melbourne winter on High Street without any fuss.
Two Players, One Banner
When two Bears players share the same milestone on the same day, our Two Player Banner is the ideal way to celebrate them together. Provide both names and guernsey numbers and we'll deliver a quality dual banner for the occasion.
Team Banners for Group Celebrations
For 3 to 6 players all being honoured together, our Team Banner puts every name in the spotlight. Feature a top-line message like "Go Bears!" and list every player being recognised. A great option for a milestone round or Kew FC presentation night.
Wall Keepsake Banners
Available in Small, Medium, and Large, our Wall Keepsake Banners are printed on thick recyclable paper with waterproof inks. Display your Bears keepsake in the clubrooms, garage, or games room as a permanent reminder of the seasons that matter most.
Grand Final Banners
Available in 4.5m and 5.5m sizes with fully customised top and bottom text, our Grand Final Banners make the biggest day in the local competition even better. Contact us for design advice and let FootyBanners.com help Kew Football Club charge through the banner on grand final day.
About Kew Bears
Origins and Founding
The Kew Football Club, known as the Bears, was founded in 1876, making it one of the oldest continuously operating Australian rules football clubs in Victoria. The club won its first flag in 1880 in the Hawthorn District Zone competition and entered the Victorian Junior Football Association (VJFA) in 1889. After periods in the VFL Sub-Districts and various metropolitan competitions, the Bears joined the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) in 1949 and have remained there ever since. The club's motto - "Vigore Honoreque" (With Vigor and Honor) - reflects a commitment to competitive football and community values built over nearly 150 years.
Club History
Kew has won 9 VAFA premierships: 1950, 1953, 1962, 1964, 1966, 1979, 2013, 2014, and 2015. Before joining the VAFA, the club also won three VFL Sub-District flags in 1928, 1929, and 1930 during its time as Kew District Football Club. The 2013-2015 three-peat in the VAFA marked a golden era for the Bears in the modern era. The club's women's section entered the Victorian Women's Football League (VWFL) in 2014 and won its first women's premiership in 2016, before the women's team transitioned to the VAFAW where it competes in the Premier Division. Former Collingwood footballer Bryan "Jack" Cole was appointed men's senior coach for 2024, continuing in the role through 2025.
Home Ground
The Bears play their home matches at J.J. Higgins Reserve in Kew. The club's long association with Victoria Park in Kew dates to the earliest decades of its history - it was Victoria Park's unfenced condition that forced the club's withdrawal from the VJFA in 1896. Today, J.J. Higgins Reserve hosts both the men's VAFA Division 1 and the women's VAFAW Premier Division sides, as well as junior teams.
Community and Programs
The Kew Football Club fields senior men's, senior women's, and junior teams, providing a full football pathway in Melbourne's inner east. The women's program competes at the highest level of VAFA women's football in the Premier Division. Junior development programs feed talent through to senior ranks, with the club maintaining a strong connection to the broader Kew community through school partnerships and local engagement.
Kew
Kew is an affluent inner-eastern suburb of Melbourne, located approximately 5 kilometres east of the CBD in the City of Boroondara. With a population of 24,499 at the 2021 census, Kew is known for its heritage-listed Victorian architecture, leafy streets, and the Yarra Boulevard along the Yarra River. The suburb is home to prestigious schools, Studley Park Boathouse, and the iconic Kew Boulevard, and has long been associated with Melbourne's professional and academic communities.
The Bears compete in the Victorian Amateur Football Association and call J.J. Higgins Reserve home. Visit the club website, follow them on Facebook, and follow them on Instagram for news and match-day updates.

-
Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
