About Mt Martha Junior Football Club
Origins and Founding
The Mt Martha Junior Football Club (MMJFC) was established in 1970 as one of five founding clubs of the Mornington Peninsula Junior Football League (MPJFL). The club was created to provide young residents of the rapidly growing coastal suburb of Mt Martha with the opportunity to play Australian rules football at a local level. The other four founding clubs of the MPJFL were Beleura, Crib Point, Hastings, and South Mornington, with Mt Martha helping to shape the junior football landscape of the Mornington Peninsula from the competition's very first season.
The club is based at its home ground on Seppelt Avenue in Mt Martha and has operated continuously from the Mornington Peninsula's southern shoreline since 1970. The MMJFC has positioned itself as a family-friendly, child-safe organisation focused on providing equal opportunity for all junior players across the peninsula.
Club History
Over more than five decades, the Mounties have built a reputation as one of the MPJFL's established clubs, with players from the Mt Martha ranks regularly progressing through to the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League (now MPFNL) and beyond. The club has produced players who have gone on to represent the Sandringham Dragons in the NAB League pathway, including alumni who have represented the Victorian Metro and Vic Country sides at under-age representative level. The club celebrates its alumni achievements through an active Hall of Fame program and regular legend recognition events.
Home Ground
The Mounties train and play their home games at their ground on Seppelt Avenue, Mt Martha - a facility that has served the club since its founding years. The ground sits within the coastal residential character of Mt Martha, close to the foreshore and the broader amenity that makes the area one of the Mornington Peninsula's most desirable communities. The club has maintained and upgraded its facilities progressively, with modern change rooms and canteen infrastructure supporting the club's growing player base.
Community and Programs
The MMJFC offers football for boys and girls from junior age groups through to Under 17s, and maintains an active Girls Academy program. The club operates in accordance with AFL Victoria's child-safe standards and holds a formal child safeguarding framework. New and returning families are welcomed each season through an active social committee and club communications program, reinforcing the Mounties' identity as a welcoming community club on the Mornington Peninsula.
Mount Martha
Mount Martha is a coastal suburb on the Mornington Peninsula, located approximately 50 kilometres south-east of Melbourne's CBD, within the Shire of Mornington Peninsula. The suburb recorded a population of 19,846 at the 2021 census and sits on the south-eastern shores of Port Phillip Bay. Known for its surf beaches, bushland walks along Balcombe Creek, and the historic Briars Homestead, Mt Martha attracts both permanent residents and seasonal visitors. The area's rapid residential development from the 1960s onward created the community that gave rise to the MMJFC's founding.
The Mounties compete in the Mornington Peninsula Junior Football League (MPJFL) and play at Seppelt Avenue, Mt Martha. For more information visit the MMJFC website, or follow the club on Facebook.

-
Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
