About Radford Collegians
Origins and Founding
The Radford Collegians football community is connected to Radford College in Bruce, ACT - an independent Anglican co-educational day school that opened its doors in 1984 under founding principal Jock Mackinnon AM, with 235 students and 15 staff. The college is named after Bishop Lewis Bostock Radford, and was established with a non-selective enrolment policy. The Radford Collegians' Association, known simply as "the Collegians," grew to represent former students of the college and has become an integral part of the broader Radford community, connecting over 6,500 alumni around the world.
Club History
Australian rules football has been a proud part of Radford College's sporting culture since the school's early years. The school participates in AFL Canberra competitions and has produced generations of players who have gone on to represent clubs across the region. Football captains have traditionally been celebrated as leaders within the school, and as graduates move on, the Collegians provide a way for them to maintain their connection to the game and to each other. The football program reflects the school's broader commitment to excellence in co-curricular activities alongside academics and the arts. Notable Radford alumni have gone on to play at state and national level, including in AFLW, continuing the college's proud tradition of developing well-rounded young people.
Home Ground
Radford College's sporting facilities are located on the college campus in Bruce, ACT. The college campus is situated in the inner northern Canberra suburb of Bruce, with facilities shared across the school's extensive co-curricular programs. The Bruce area is home to several significant sporting venues in the ACT, including the AIS campus and GIO Stadium, making it a well-established hub for Canberra sport.
Community and Programs
The Radford Collegians' Association is guided by three core pillars: social and community awareness, business and career opportunities, and giving back. The Collegians organise reunions, mentoring programs, support college functions, and raise funds for community outreach programs. In June 2025, the Collegians launched a Career Expo to connect alumni with professional networks and opportunities. The Collegians also oversee inter-generational events, including football matches between alumni and current Year 12 students, keeping the spirit of the game alive across generations of the Radford community.

Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
