About Riddell Football Netball Club
Origins and Founding
The Riddell Football Netball Club, nicknamed the Bombers, was founded in 1888, making it one of the older football clubs in Victoria's Macedon Ranges and north-western corridor. The club is based in Riddells Creek, a small town 53 kilometres north-west of Melbourne, and has competed in the Riddell District Football League throughout the majority of its history. The Bombers take their name and identity from the broader Riddells Creek community, one of the earliest European settlements in the district.
Club History
The Riddell Bombers have won 15 senior premierships across their history, including a title in the Gisborne Football Association in 1905 and one in the RDFNL in 1912. In the modern era they have been one of the dominant clubs in the Riddell District Football League, claiming premierships in 1947, 1970, 1980, 1982, 1990, 1991, 1992, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2013. Their run of three consecutive premierships from 1990 to 1992 established them as the premier club of that era, and they repeated the feat with consecutive flags in 2005 and 2006. The club has also produced players who reached the AFL level, including Jarryd Allen (St Kilda, 2008) and Tom Sheridan (Fremantle and GWS, 2012). The netball section has won multiple RDFNL netball titles across A, B and C grades.
Home Ground
The Bombers play at Riddells Creek Reserve in Riddells Creek, Victoria, which serves as the home ground for both football and netball competition. The ground is located in the heart of the township and provides the facilities for the club's full program of senior, reserves and junior competition across both codes throughout the season.
Community and Programs
The Riddell Football Netball Club operates both football and netball programs and is a central institution in the Riddells Creek community. With more than 2,700 followers on their Facebook page, the Bombers maintain a strong local following that extends across the broader Macedon Ranges Shire. The club's history, spanning over 135 years, represents one of the longer continuous traditions of community football in regional Victoria.
Riddells Creek
Riddells Creek is a small township in the Macedon Ranges Shire, situated approximately 53 kilometres north-west of Melbourne and about 12 kilometres south of Romsey. The 2021 census recorded a population of approximately 2,200 residents. The township is situated in the volcanic plains and ranges landscape of the Macedon Ranges, surrounded by farming properties and bushland. Like many small towns in the region, it has experienced some population growth as Melbourne's commuter belt has extended northward in recent decades.
The Bombers compete in the Riddell District Football League and call Riddells Creek Reserve home. Follow the club on Facebook.

-
Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
