About Rye Demons
Origins and Founding
The Rye Football and Netball Club was founded in 1946 and quickly established itself as one of the premier clubs on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula. Playing out of RJ Rowley Reserve in the town of Rye, the club competes in the Mornington Peninsula Football Netball League (MPNFL) under the nickname the Demons. The junior arm of the club, the Rye Junior Football Club, was established to give younger players a pathway into the game under the same proud Demons identity.

Club History
Since 1946, the Rye Football Club has appeared in 20 senior grand finals and claimed 8 premierships: 1951, 1954, 1959, 1964, 1965, 1972, 1982, and 2006. The club's most dominant stretch came between 1951 and 1972, when the Demons reached 15 grand finals, won six flags, and missed the finals only once. A particularly memorable moment came in 1960, when Rye kicked 68 goals and 31 behinds - a league record at the time - with Marty Duncan booting 27 goals in a single match, still a MPNFL record.
The club has produced several players who went on to VFL and AFL level, including Danny Jennings (Melbourne), Craig O'Brien (Essendon, St Kilda and Sydney), Clint Shaw (St Kilda), and Luke Davies-Uniacke (North Melbourne). Club legends such as Clarrie Jennings, Nick Appleford, and Sean Appleford (who holds the club games record with 460 appearances) have shaped the identity of the Demons over generations.

Home Ground
The Rye Football and Netball Club plays its home games at RJ Rowley Reserve in Rye, named in honour of Wilfred Rowley, the club's founding president from 1946 to 1958. The reserve sits close to the foreshore of Port Phillip Bay and hosts senior, reserves, and junior competitions throughout the season. The club's pavilion is named after Clarrie Jennings, a founding member and 21-year president who captained and coached the Demons to multiple premierships.

Community and Programs
The Rye Junior Football Club operates as the junior pathway for the Demons, providing boys and girls the opportunity to play Australian Rules football in a welcoming, inclusive environment. The junior club runs age-group teams from the Auskick program through to under-age competition, developing players for the senior club and fostering lifelong connections to the game. The Rye Football and Netball Club also runs a netball program, making it a genuine multi-sport community hub for families on the Peninsula.
