About South Belgrave Saints Football Club
Origins and Founding
The South Belgrave Football Netball Club was established in 1946 and initially competed in the Mountain District Football Association. The club, known as the Saints, has grown over eight decades from a small local football side into one of the Belgrave ranges' most active community sporting clubs, fielding men's and women's football teams as well as netball across multiple grades.
Club History
South Belgrave competed in the Mountain District FA until it merged with the Yarra Valley Football League in 1965. The Saints then played in the Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League (YVMDFL) until 2007, with stints in the Eastern District Football League (1969) and South West Gippsland Football League (1978-1982). Since 2008, the club has called the Eastern Football Netball League (EFNL) home. Senior premierships include 1966, 1968, 1976, 1977, 1996, 2013, 2019 and 2022. The 2019 season was a landmark year, with the club winning flags in all three grades of men's football plus a netball premiership. In 2022, the Saints defeated Ringwood in the Division 2 Grand Final to earn promotion to Division 1, and in 2023 the club's inaugural Women's Veterans side went through the season undefeated to claim the premiership.
Home Ground
South Belgrave plays its home games at Belgrave South Recreation Reserve on Mt Morton Road, Belgrave South VIC 3160. The reserve provides facilities for both football and netball competitions and serves as the club's social hub throughout the season.
Community and Programs
The South Belgrave Sporting Club fields sides across Men's Division 1 (Seniors, Reserves, Under 19.5s, Under 17.5s, and Veterans), Women's Premier Division and Veterans, and Netball Divisions 11 and 12. The club has a strong focus on junior development and community inclusion, with school outreach and family-friendly match day programs running throughout the EFNL season.

-
Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
