About South Mornington Football Netball Club
Origins and Founding
The South Mornington Football and Netball Club, known as the Tigers, was established in 2002 in the coastal suburb of Mount Martha on the Mornington Peninsula. The club started as a senior entity by fielding a reserves team in the Southern Football Netball League (SFNL) in 2005 before building out to a full senior program. Despite being one of the newer clubs in the region, the Tigers quickly established a strong identity around community involvement and competitive football under their motto "Whatever it takes."
Club History
South Mornington has steadily progressed through the SFNL competition grades since its inception. In 2024, the club was runners-up in their division and earned promotion to SFNL Division 3 for the 2025 season, marking a significant achievement for a club only in its early twenties of existence. The netball program has proven particularly strong, with back-to-back netball premierships in recent seasons. The club's volunteer-driven culture and passionate supporter base at Citation Oval have been central to this upward trajectory, with stalwarts like 77-year-old Colin O'Neill, who has contributed to the club for nearly 25 years, representing the deep community roots the Tigers have established in Mount Martha.
Home Ground
The Tigers train and play their home games at Citation Oval, located on Helena Street, Mount Martha. The ground serves as the hub for both football and netball activities and creates a welcoming environment for families and supporters from across the southern Mornington Peninsula. Citation Oval is well-positioned within the Mount Martha residential area, providing easy access for families from the surrounding suburbs of Mornington, Safety Beach, and Dromana.
Community and Programs
South Mornington FNC operates senior men's and women's football teams and a netball program across multiple age groups in the SFNL. The club maintains an under-19 development squad to provide a pathway from junior football into senior competition. Training sessions are held at Citation Oval on Thursday evenings, and the club actively recruits players from the Mornington Peninsula and the wider south-eastern Melbourne corridor. The Tigers' community identity is built around volunteer commitment, local sponsorships, and a family-oriented match-day atmosphere.
Mount Martha
Mount Martha is a coastal residential suburb on the Mornington Peninsula, located approximately 52 kilometres south of Melbourne's CBD and 6 kilometres south of Mornington town centre, facing Port Phillip Bay. The suburb recorded a population of 19,846 at the 2021 census and is known for its beaches, bushland reserves, and relaxed lifestyle. Mount Martha attracts families and sea-changers seeking proximity to the water while maintaining reasonable commuting access to Melbourne via the Frankston and Peninsula Link corridors.

Footy Banner Information
Material: All Footy Banners are printed on 1.6 Metre high coated paper using permanent inks which will not run, even if they get wet. They are fully recyclable.
How to Use: We recommend taping broomsticks or plastic pipe to the ends of the banner to hold it flat whilst the player runs through it. If you cut vertical slits in the banner in the centre, it creates a weak spot where it will break and look best when run through. There are instructions and images for how to cut these in the FAQ section below.
On a windy day, cut smaller vertical slits in the Footy Banner so if the wind catches it, it doesn't rip too soon! This is why we do not pre-cut them, and also so you can get photographs with your intact banner when it looks at it's best.
Tip: Some players choose to only cut one weak spot in their banner so it can be saved and displayed later by taping it back together on the back.Pro Tip: Cut the weak spot to one side of the mascot or team logo so it stays intact as well!
