About St Albans Football Club
Origins and Founding
The St Albans Football Club was established in 1947 following a public meeting held at the St Albans Fire Station in September 1946, where 26 local residents gathered to form the club. Mr W. E. Perrett was elected as the club's first president, with S. Taylor appointed as coach. The club was initially based at Errington Reserve and was formally accepted into the Western Region Football League - then known as the Footscray District Football League - in March 1947, beginning competitive play on 26 April of that year.
Club History
St Albans competed in the Western Region Football League for the bulk of its history, winning five Division One premierships across 1966, 1969, 1988, 1989, and 2001, and one Division Two premiership in 1997. In December 2022 the club transitioned to the Essendon District Football League, competing in Division One from the 2023 season onward. The club has a strong tradition of long-serving players, with more than 25 individuals reaching the 300-game milestone, including Joe Maziarz, Rod Toby, Jason Fitzpatrick, Mark Antonowicz, Daniel McFerran and Zammy Muhtari. The club has also published a Team of the Century, with Glenn Haynes recognised as the dominant Best and Fairest winner of his era, claiming the award in 1958, 1959, 1960 and 1969.
Home Ground
The Saints are based at Kings Park Reserve in Kings Park, with use also of Errington Reserve and Delahey Reserve. Kings Park Reserve serves as the principal ground for senior and junior home matches. The club's junior program currently fields seven teams from under-10s to under-18s, alongside two open-age female teams and two senior men's teams.
Community and Programs
St Albans FC has long served as a cornerstone of the local sporting community in Melbourne's north-western suburbs, drawing participants from the diverse multicultural communities that make up the area. The club operates both men's and women's senior programs and a well-structured junior pathway. A Facebook community of more than 3,400 followers tracks the club's ongoing activities and results throughout the season.
St Albans and Kings Park
St Albans is a suburb in the City of Brimbank in Melbourne's inner-western fringe, known for its highly multicultural community and strong local sporting culture. Kings Park, where the club is now based, is an adjacent suburb that recorded a population of approximately 8,203 at the 2021 census. The broader Brimbank region is one of Melbourne's most ethnically diverse local government areas, and community sport plays a significant role in connecting residents across different cultural backgrounds.
The Saints compete in the Essendon District Football League and call Kings Park Reserve home. Visit the club at stalbansfc.com.au and follow along on Facebook.

-
-
Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
