St Bernards Bernies Banners - Celebrate Every Bernie Milestone

From debut games to 200-game legends, FootyBanners.com is the go-to place for custom footy banners that celebrate the Bernies. Whether it's a milestone match at St Bernard's College or a big VAFA finals run, we make it easy to mark the occasion in style.

Simple to Order

Select from a Single Player, Two Player, Team, or Grand Final Banner to suit the occasion. For single player banners, you'll need the player's name, surname, guernsey number, and milestone - for example, Tom Walsh, #22, 150 Games. Our banners are printed with permanent inks on heavy-duty, weatherproof paper - ready for even the most blustery winter afternoon at West Essendon.

Two Players, One Banner

Two Bernies hitting the same milestone on match day? Our Two Player Banner lets you celebrate both at once. Both players need to share the same milestone, and you'll provide each player's name and guernsey number. Double the pride, double the occasion.

Team Banners for Group Celebrations

Celebrate a standout group with a Team Banner featuring 3 to 6 players. Choose a powerful top-line message like "Bernies - VAFA Premiers" and make the moment official. Perfect for finals campaigns, milestone rounds, or any big occasion at the club.

Wall Keepsake Banners

Available in Small, Medium, and Large, our Wall Keepsake Banners are printed on thick recyclable paper with waterproof inks. Display them in the clubrooms at St Bernard's College, in your garage, or in your games room - a lasting reminder of your time as a Bernie.

Grand Final Banners

When the Bernies make it to VAFA grand final day, make sure the banner is worthy of the moment. Our Grand Final Banners are available in 4.5m and 5.5m sizes with fully customised top and bottom text. Contact us for design advice and we'll make it happen.

About St Bernard's Old Collegians Football Club

Origins and Founding

The St Bernard's Old Collegians Football Club (known informally as the Bernies) was founded in 1963, formed largely by players who had represented St Bernard's College in the 1961 Associated Catholic Colleges First XVIII competition. The newly formed club entered the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) E Section and made history immediately, becoming the first club in VAFA history to win a senior premiership in their inaugural season - defeating Glen Huntly in the 1963 grand final. They followed up with a D Section premiership in 1964. The club is closely affiliated with St Bernard's College, Essendon, and plays its home matches at the school's oval.

Club History

The Bernies have won 10 VAFA premierships in total: 1963, 1964, 1975, 1984, 1987, 1991, 2002, 2015, 2018, and 2023. After gaining promotion to B Section in 1969 and A Section in 1970, the club has never been relegated below the top two VAFA divisions since 1971 - one of only two clubs in VAFA history to achieve this (alongside Old Scotch). As of 2025, the Bernies compete in the VAFA Premier Division. The club has produced numerous AFL players, including Tom Liberatore and Mitch Wallis (both Western Bulldogs), Jake Riccardi (GWS Giants), Xavier O'Halloran (GWS Giants), and Ben Ronke (GWS Giants). Junior girls teams also compete in the Western Football Netball League (WFNL).

Home Ground

The Bernies play their home matches at St Bernard's College Oval in Essendon West. The ground is situated within the college campus and has been the club's home since its founding, creating a strong connection between the school, its Old Collegians, and the football club. The oval is a well-maintained facility in Melbourne's inner northwest and serves as the hub for the club's activities throughout the season.

Community and Programs

The St Bernard's Old Collegians Football Club is a proud member of the VAFA, one of Australia's largest and most storied amateur competitions. The club has a strong Old Collegians network, drawing players from the broader St Bernard's College community. The club's junior girls program competes in the WFNL, and the club maintains active connections with St Bernard's College through talent pathways and community events throughout the year. The Bernies are one of the VAFA's most successful clubs historically, with 10 premierships across six decades of competition.

Essendon West

Essendon West is an inner-northwestern suburb of Melbourne, located approximately 9 kilometres northwest of the Melbourne CBD in the City of Moonee Valley. The area is characterised by well-established residential streets, parks, and schools, with St Bernard's College being one of its most prominent institutions. The suburb sits adjacent to Essendon and borders the Essendon Airport precinct, and is home to a range of community sporting clubs alongside the Bernies.

The Bernies compete in the VAFA Premier Division and play at St Bernard's College Oval, Essendon West. More information is available at stbernardsfc.com.au, on Facebook, and on Instagram.

    📄 Material & Construction

    • Premium Coated Paper (1.6 m high) printed with permanent, waterproof inks—won’t run or fade, even in wet weather.

    • Eco-friendly & Recyclable: All banners are fully recyclable when the celebration is over.

    • Durable weatherproof sports banners printed on heavy-duty coated paper - these banners are not made of crepe paper.

    🔧 Preparation & Run-Through Setup - Expert instructions for break-through milestone banners.

    • Rigging Your Banner

      • Tape broomsticks or PVC pipe to each edge to keep the banner taut.

      • This creates a professional “run-through” presentation for game-day moments.

    • Creating the Break-Through Slits

      • Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.

      • Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.

    💡 Tips & Tricks

    • Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.

    • Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.

  • Return and Refund Policy

As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.

Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
