About Sunbury Kangaroos JFC
Origins and Founding
The Sunbury Kangaroos Football Club was founded in 1987, originally competing under the name Sunbury Rovers in the Riddell District Football League. The club was established to give Sunbury a second team in the league, ensuring that local players had more opportunities to participate in structured competition. The change to the Kangaroos name followed an arrangement with the North Melbourne Football Club, which provided incentives for the rebranding and connected the club to one of the AFL's most recognisable teams.

Club History
The Sunbury Kangaroos competed in the Riddell District Football League from 1987 through to 2018, winning the senior premiership in 2012 and the reserves premiership in 2006, 2007, 2014, 2015, and 2017. From 2019 the club transitioned to the Essendon District Football League, winning both the senior and reserves premierships in that first EDFL season. The women's program was established in 2018 within the EDFL framework, with the women's team now also competing in the EDFL. The club currently fields men's and women's teams across senior and junior grades, with the men's senior side competing in Division 2 of the EDFL and the juniors playing in associated competitions.

Home Ground
The Kangaroos are based at Eric Boardman Reserve in Sunbury, which serves as the home ground for senior and junior competitions. The reserve is located within the Sunbury township and provides training and match-day facilities for the club's various teams throughout the season. The junior club, which operates as the Sunbury Kangaroos Junior Football Netball Club, is affiliated with the senior club and provides pathways for young players from Auskick through to the senior grades.

Community and Programs
The Sunbury Kangaroos Junior Football Netball Club caters to boys and girls across a range of junior age groups, with the netball program expanding the club's reach beyond football. The club has built a following of more than 1,200 followers on its Facebook page, reflecting the strong community interest in junior sport across the Sunbury area. The junior program provides the foundation for players to eventually enter the senior ranks of the Kangaroos.
