Your banner is printed with permanent inks on weatherproof heavy-duty paper, so it will hold up even on a crisp Melbourne winter morning at Main Street Reserve.

About Thomastown Bears
Origins and Founding
The Thomastown Football Netball Club was established as a junior club in 1966 to provide recreation for the youth of the local area. The senior club was formed in 1975 and initially competed in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA), playing in the Panton Hill Football League from 1976 to 1979 before returning to the VAFA from 1980 to 2000. In 2001, the club joined the Diamond Valley Football League in Division Two, and in 2007 transferred to the Northern Football League (now NFNL), where they continue to compete today.
Club History
The Bears have won four senior premierships across their history. Their first came in 1983 in VAFA E Grade, followed by a second in 1989 in D1 Grade. After joining the NFL, the club won Division Two in 2008, defeating Macleod in the grand final. In 2014, the Bears won a Division Three premiership under the NFNL banner, defeating Reservoir. The club rebranded as the Thomastown Football Netball Club in 2010 when they entered a netball side into NFL competition, eventually fielding four netball teams. Notable alumni to reach the elite level include Alex Marcou (Carlton and St. Kilda) and David Glascott (Carlton).
Home Ground
The Bears are based at Main Street Reserve in Thomastown. The ground is located approximately 17 kilometres north of Melbourne's CBD and serves as the home for both the football and netball programs. Main Street Reserve provides facilities for the club's growing junior and senior membership base.
Community and Programs
The Thomastown Football Netball Club has expanded significantly beyond its football origins. The club fields multiple netball teams in NFNL competition and also runs a junior football program, which was relaunched in 2013 after a period of absence. Thomastown Auskick, which commenced in 2011, provides the youngest members of the community with their introduction to Australian rules football. The club's volunteer base and family-friendly environment have made it a genuine community hub in Thomastown.
Thomastown
Thomastown is a suburb of Melbourne located approximately 16 kilometres north of the CBD in the City of Whittlesea local government area. It recorded a population of 14,234 at the 2021 census. The suburb came into existence in 1848 and takes its name from the Thomas family, who purchased 106 acres of land north of Melbourne for market gardening. Thomastown is known for sharing its area with Westgarthtown, a historical German settlement established by William Westgarth in the 1850s.
The Bears compete in the NFNL and call Main Street Reserve home. Visit the club website, follow them on Facebook, or find them on Instagram.

-
-
Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
