About Waverley Park Hawks Junior Football Club
Origins and Founding
The Waverley Park Hawks Junior Football Club was established in 1971 to provide football opportunities for the youth of a fast-growing area on Melbourne's south-eastern fringe. The club celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2021 and has grown to become one of the largest junior football clubs in the City of Monash, with approximately 350 players across its boys and girls programs. The Hawks are a proud affiliated club of the Hawthorn Football Club, wearing the iconic brown and gold and carrying the Hawks name since the program's inception.

Club History
The Waverley Park Hawks are affiliated with the South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL), which was established in 1988 and has grown to become one of Victoria's premier junior leagues. By 2024, the SMJFL encompassed 26 member clubs, 10,555 registered players, and 460 teams, serving as the competition home for the Hawks' boys and girls age groups from Under 8 through Under 18. The club has expanded its girls program alongside the boys to reflect the growth of women's football across the region, with girls teams competing from Under 8 to Under 18 level in dedicated SMJFL competitions.

Home Ground
The Waverley Park Hawks are based at Columbia Reserve in Wheelers Hill, a facility that serves as the hub for training, home games, and club activities across the SMJFL season. The ground is well equipped for junior competition, providing a safe and welcoming environment for players of all ages and skill levels. The club principally serves Wheelers Hill and the surrounding suburbs of Glen Waverley, Mount Waverley, Mulgrave, Rowville, Scoresby, and Dandenong.

Community and Programs
The Waverley Park Hawks place community and inclusion at the centre of their operation. The club explicitly welcomes players from all backgrounds, genders, and abilities, with a philosophy that balances competitive development with social wellbeing. The Hawthorn AFC affiliation provides players access to the broader Hawthorn Football Club support network, including development resources and pathway programs. With around 350 registered players, the Hawks run mixed teams from Under 8 to Under 14 and gender-specific competitions from Under 8 to Under 18.

Wheelers Hill
Wheelers Hill is a suburb in the south-eastern growth corridor of Melbourne, located approximately 22 kilometres from the CBD in the City of Monash local government area. At the 2021 Census, Wheelers Hill recorded a population of approximately 14,500 residents. The suburb is characterised by established residential streetscapes, proximity to Jells Park, and strong family demographics, making it a natural base for one of the region's most active junior football clubs.
