About West Coburg

Origins and Founding
The West Coburg Football Club was founded in 1927 and is one of the oldest clubs in the Essendon District Football League (EDFL). The club was initially part of the VFA Sub-District Association, where it quickly established itself as a competition powerhouse, winning five consecutive premierships from 1937 to 1941. After the Sub-District Association wound up, West Coburg transferred to the EDFL in 1954, where it has remained ever since. The club plays under the affectionate nickname "the Burgers," a local identity built over nearly a century of football in Melbourne's northern suburbs.

Club History
West Coburg has amassed 22 senior premierships, cementing its status as one of the EDFL's most successful clubs. Flags came in 1937, 1938, 1939, 1940, 1941, 1949, 1953, 1958, and 1963, followed by four flags across two grades from 1965 to 1968, and further titles in 1970, 1971, 1977, 1987, 1991, 1996, 2000, 2006, and 2014. The club has produced several AFL players, including Brandon Ellis (Richmond Tigers) and Adam Saad (Gold Coast Suns, Essendon Bombers, and Carlton Blues). Earlier generations produced VFL talent including David Dench and Daryl O'Brien, both of whom played for North Melbourne.

Home Ground
West Coburg plays its home games at Shore Reserve in Pascoe Vale South and also uses Coburg City Oval. Shore Reserve sits in a leafy setting in Melbourne's northern suburbs and has been a fixture of local football in the Coburg area for decades. The ground hosts senior, reserves, and junior home fixtures throughout the EDFL season.

Community and Programs
The club fields teams across senior, reserves, and junior grades, providing a clear development pathway for players from the surrounding Coburg, Pascoe Vale, and Moreland communities. Coburg is a diverse inner-northern suburb of Melbourne, situated approximately 8 to 9 kilometres north of the CBD in the City of Merri-bek. With a population of around 26,574 at the 2021 census, Coburg is a culturally diverse and rapidly evolving suburb known for its Sydney Road dining precinct, weekend markets, and growing cafe culture. Pascoe Vale South, where Shore Reserve is located, sits immediately north of Coburg and shares the same vibrant northern suburbs character.
