About Westmeadows Football Club

Origins and Founding

The Westmeadows Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, was founded in 1970 following meetings with local community members who wanted to establish a junior football club for the rapidly growing suburb of Westmeadows in Melbourne's north-west. The club initially fielded Under 11s and expanded its age group programs through the 1970s. In 1977 the senior club was formally established, entering the Essendon District Football League and beginning the Tigers' long association with one of Melbourne's most competitive outer-northern football competitions. The club competes in the Essendon District Football League (EDFL).

Club History

The Tigers' greatest senior success came in 1984, when the club defeated Ascot Vale by forty points at Windy Hill to claim the B Grade premiership - the club's only senior flag to date. The match was played at the home of the Essendon Football Club, underscoring the significance of the occasion for the Westmeadows community. Despite that premiership being the club's only flag, Westmeadows has been a consistent EDFL competitor and has produced an impressive list of players who went on to play at the highest level. Among the most distinguished alumni are Dane Swan, who won a Brownlow Medal with Collingwood in 2011, Corey McKernan (North Melbourne), Andrew Krakouer (North Melbourne), Andrew Welsh (Essendon), Scott Wynd and Craig Ellis (Footscray), Jordan Bannister (Essendon), and Anthony McGregor (Fitzroy).

Home Ground

The Tigers play their home games at Willowbrook Reserve in Westmeadows, the club's long-standing home base in the heart of the suburb. The ground serves both the senior men's and women's programs and the club's extensive junior competition structure, making it a busy community sporting hub through the winter season. Willowbrook Reserve is located approximately 16 kilometres north-west of Melbourne's CBD in the City of Hume.

Community and Programs

Westmeadows FC currently runs senior men's, senior women's, and junior programs, catering to players across a broad age range from the suburb and surrounding Hume City catchment. The club has historically been a strong community developer, with the volume of players who progressed to VFL/AFL football - including a Brownlow medallist in Dane Swan - speaking to the quality of environment the club has fostered. The Tigers' women's program competes in the EDFL Women's competition and the club is actively involved in the EDFL's junior structures.

Westmeadows

Westmeadows is a suburb in Melbourne's north-west, located approximately 16 kilometres from the CBD in the City of Hume local government area. At the 2021 Census, Westmeadows recorded a population of 6,502 residents. The suburb is situated adjacent to Melbourne Airport and is characterised by a mix of established residential streets and light industrial zones. Hume Freeway access makes Westmeadows well connected to Melbourne's broader north-west corridor.

The Tigers compete in the EDFL and call Willowbrook Reserve, Westmeadows, home. Follow the club on Facebook, or connect on Instagram at @westmeadowsfc.

  • Footy Banner Information

Material:  All Footy Banners are printed on 1.6 Metre high coated paper using permanent inks which will not run, even if they get wet.  They are fully recyclable.

How to Use:  We recommend taping broomsticks or plastic pipe to the ends of the banner to hold it flat whilst the player runs through it.  If you cut vertical slits in the banner in the centre, it creates a weak spot where it will break and look best when run through.  There are instructions and images for how to cut these in the FAQ section below.

On a windy day, cut smaller vertical slits in the Footy Banner so if the wind catches it, it doesn't rip too soon!  This is why we do not pre-cut them, and also so you can get photographs with your intact banner when it looks at it's best.

Tip: Some players choose to only cut one weak spot in their banner so it can be saved and displayed later by taping it back together on the back.

Pro Tip:  Cut the weak spot to one side of the mascot or team logo so it stays intact as well!

  • Return and Refund Policy

As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.

Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
