About Frankston Football Club

Origins and Founding

The Frankston Football Club, nicknamed the Dolphins, was founded in 1887, making it the first Peninsula-based Australian rules football club in Victoria. Early games were arranged between a network of teams across the Mornington Peninsula, including Hastings and Mornington. The club became one of five founding members of the Peninsula Football Association (PFA) in 1908, winning that inaugural competition's first grand final appearance and going on to claim PFA premierships in 1911, 1919, 1922, 1923, and 1931.

Club History

In 1933, the PFA merged with the Peninsula District Football Association to form the Mornington Peninsula Football League (MPFL), and Frankston won seven MPFL premierships between 1937 and 1961 (1937, 1938, 1939, 1941, 1949, 1952, and 1961). In 1966, the club entered the Victorian Football Association (VFA), eventually winning the VFA Second Division premiership in 1978 - defeating Camberwell by 14 points in front of 12,291 spectators at Toorak Park, with John Hunter kicking 6 goals. That victory earned Frankston promotion to VFA First Division for 1979, and the club has competed in the Victorian Football League (VFL) almost continuously since. The Dolphins have been a significant talent producer, with numerous players drafted directly into the AFL since the 2000s, including Matthew Boyd (Western Bulldogs, 2001), Michael Hibberd (Essendon, 2010), Sam Lloyd (Richmond, 2013), and Kyle Martin (Collingwood, 2012).

Home Ground

The Dolphins play their home games at Frankston Park, a purpose-built oval in central Frankston with a capacity of 5,000. The ground has hosted VFL football for decades and sits close to Frankston's main shopping and commercial precinct, making it accessible for the large supporter base along the Mornington Peninsula corridor. Frankston Park is also the home base for the club's MPFNL women's teams.

Community and Programs

The Frankston Football Club fields VFL men's senior and reserves teams, as well as MPFNL Division 1 and Division 2 women's teams, reflecting a broad commitment to the game across genders. The club won its first MPFNLW premiership in 2024 (Division 3), adding to its long list of senior achievements. The club's community programs feed into a proud tradition of local talent development, with close ties to junior clubs across the Frankston and Mornington Peninsula region.

Frankston

Frankston is a major suburban city on the eastern shore of Port Phillip Bay, located approximately 45 kilometres south of Melbourne's CBD in the City of Frankston. It serves as the gateway to the Mornington Peninsula and is one of the most significant coastal communities in Victoria, with strong transport links to the Melbourne CBD via the Frankston train line. The Dolphins are deeply woven into the fabric of Frankston community life, having represented the city in football at the highest local and semi-professional levels for nearly 140 years.

The Dolphins compete in the Victorian Football League and Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League and call Frankston Park home. More information is available at frankstonfc.com.au, on Facebook, and on Instagram.

    • Premium Coated Paper (1.6 m high) printed with permanent, waterproof inks—won’t run or fade, even in wet weather.

    🔧 Preparation & Run-Through Setup - Expert instructions for break-through milestone banners.

    • Rigging Your Banner

      • Tape broomsticks or PVC pipe to each edge to keep the banner taut.

      • This creates a professional “run-through” presentation for game-day moments.

    • Creating the Break-Through Slits

      • Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.

      • Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.

    💡 Tips & Tricks

    • Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.

    • Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.

  • Return and Refund Policy

As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.

Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
