About Merrifield Panthers
Origins and Founding
The Merrifield Panthers Football Club is a young and rapidly growing AFL club based at Merrifield Recreation Reserve in Mickleham, on Melbourne's northern growth corridor. The club is part of the Merrifield Panthers Sporting Association (MPSA), which was established in 2018 as the umbrella organisation for a range of sports in the Merrifield community. The football program commenced with the Merrifield Auskick Centre, before progressing into junior competition in the Essendon District Football League (EDFL). In 2025, the Panthers launched their first season of Senior football alongside ongoing junior programs.

Club History
As one of Melbourne's newest football clubs, the Merrifield Panthers reflect the explosive residential growth of the Mickleham and Merrifield estate area. The club plays in the Essendon District Football League (EDFL), one of the largest community football competitions in Victoria. In 2025 the Panthers fielded teams in the Under-8s, Under-10s and Under-12s competitions alongside their inaugural Senior football program - a significant milestone for a club still in its first decade. The club has been built by local families and volunteers committed to establishing a lasting football culture in one of Australia's fastest-growing communities.

Home Ground
The Panthers play their home games at Merrifield Recreation Reserve, located at 20 Maystone Drive, Mickleham VIC 3064. The reserve is the central sporting hub for the Merrifield community, hosting football, cricket and basketball through the MPSA. As the Merrifield estate continues to develop, the recreation reserve is expected to grow as a community facility to serve the rapidly expanding local population.

Community and Programs
The Merrifield Panthers Sporting Association offers junior programs in basketball, cricket and football, making it one of the most comprehensive community sporting bodies in Melbourne's northern growth corridor. The football club is driven by volunteers and local families, with the Football Director coordinating programs from Auskick through to senior competition. Mickleham
Mickleham is a suburb of Melbourne, located 29 kilometres north of the CBD in the City of Hume local government area. According to the Mickleham Wikipedia article, the suburb recorded a population of 17,452 at the 2021 census - up from just 3,142 in 2016. This growth makes Mickleham one of the fastest-growing suburbs in Australia. The Merrifield estate, where the Panthers are based, is a master-planned residential development that has attracted thousands of new families to Melbourne's north, creating the community need for new clubs like the Panthers.
