About Wandong Warriors
Origins and Founding
The Wandong Warriors Junior Football Club Incorporated is a community junior football and netball club based in the small town of Wandong in Victoria's Mitchell Shire. The club competes in the Riddle and District Football Netball League (RDFNL) and provides football pathways for children from Auskick through to under-16 level. The club is registered at 12 Dry Creek Road, Wandong, and operates as a volunteer-run community organisation serving the Wandong, Heathcote Junction, and surrounding districts. The "Warriors" name reflects the spirit and determination that characterises the club's grassroots football culture.
Club History
The Wandong Warriors have built a strong reputation as a development-focused junior club. In 2025, the club's Under 12 side claimed a Goulburn Murray Juniors competition premiership, defeating opponents 8.3 (51) in the grand final - a result that was described as etching the team's name into junior football history. The club maintains teams across five age groups - Under 9s, 10s, 12s, 14s and 16s - as well as an Auskick program for the youngest members of the community. The Warriors play their home matches on Sundays, with match start times from 9.30am to 2.00pm, and train on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons throughout the season, which runs approximately February to September.
Home Ground
The Wandong Warriors play at the WHJ Sports & Community Centre in Wandong, which serves as the sporting hub for the broader Wandong-Heathcote Junction community. The ground and facilities are shared with local netball and other sporting clubs, reflecting the collaborative community spirit that defines country Victorian football. The Riddle and District Football Netball League, in which the Warriors compete, serves a range of small communities in the Mitchell Shire region north of Melbourne.
Community and Programs
The Wandong Warriors Junior Football Club is a key community organisation in Wandong, providing structured junior football and netball activities for local children. Auskick sessions introduce the youngest players to Australian rules football, while older age groups receive more structured coaching and competition. The club coordinates with the Wandong Netball Club and other local groups through the WHJ Sports & Community Centre, fostering a strong community identity through shared sporting facilities. Families are kept informed via the club's Facebook page and the Team App under "Wandong JFNC".
Wandong
Wandong is a town in Victoria, Australia, located approximately 50 kilometres north of Melbourne on the Hume Highway. It adjoins the town of Heathcote Junction, and together the two communities had a population of 1,340 at the 2016 census. The traditional owners of the Wandong area are the Taungurung people, part of the Kulin nation, and the name "Wandong" itself comes from an Aboriginal word meaning "Spirit." The nearest major centre is Kilmore, and the area sits within Mitchell Shire. Wandong was first reached by European explorers Hamilton Hume and William Hilton Hovell on 13 December 1824.
The Warriors compete in the Riddle and District Football Netball League (RDFNL) and call Wandong home. Follow the club on Facebook for news and updates.

-
-
Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
