About Waverley Blues Football Netball Club
Origins and Founding
The Waverley Blues Football Netball Club was established in 1999 through the merger of two clubs with rich but separate histories in Melbourne's eastern suburbs. The foundation came from the union of the Waverley Football Club (originally founded in 1908 as the Glen Waverley Football Club) and the Mount Waverley Burwood Football Club (formed in 1994). The Waverley FC had a distinguished history that included competing in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) from 1961 to 1987, winning a VFA Division 1 premiership in 1965, before transitioning through several competitions. The merger created the Waverley Blues, combining the supporter bases, facilities and football cultures of both predecessor clubs under one banner with a new identity focused on the Mount Waverley community.
Club History
The Waverley Blues compete in Division 2 of the Eastern Football Netball League, continuing a long tradition of community football in the EFL and its predecessor competition, the Eastern Football League. The Waverley FC forerunner competed in the EDFL/EFL from 1991 to 1998 and reached the Division 4 grand final as runners-up in both 1996 and 1997. Since the Blues were formed in 1999, the club has maintained consistent competition across senior football, reserves and junior levels. The club is based at Mount Waverley Reserve on Fleet Street, Mount Waverley, and has built a strong reputation as a family-oriented community club in the City of Monash local government area.
Home Ground
The Waverley Blues play their home matches at Mount Waverley Reserve, Fleet Street, Mount Waverley, Victoria 3149. The reserve is managed by Monash City Council and provides facilities for the club's football, netball and junior programs throughout the year. Mount Waverley Reserve has been the home of the Blues since their formation in 1999 and serves as a central meeting point for the club's membership base across the Mount Waverley, Glen Waverley and surrounding suburbs. The reserve underwent redevelopment planning in recent years, with the club actively supporting improvements to the pavilion and oval facilities.
Community and Programs
Waverley Blues Football Netball Club operates senior men's and women's football teams, a netball competition, and a junior football program. The club has actively recruited junior players from across the Mount Waverley community and surrounding suburbs, welcoming players of all experience levels. The club's motto - "Strength via our Diversity and Unity towards a Common Goal" - reflects its commitment to inclusive, community-first football. The Blues work within the Monash community structure and are part of one of Melbourne's largest and most diverse local government areas.
Mount Waverley
Mount Waverley is a residential suburb in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, located approximately 18 kilometres south-east of the CBD in the City of Monash local government area. The suburb had a population of approximately 34,000 at the 2021 Census, making it one of the larger suburbs in Melbourne's middle ring. Mount Waverley is known for its leafy streets, proximity to the Glen Waverley and Alamein train lines, and a strong tradition of community sporting activity. The suburb is home to Mount Waverley Secondary College, one of Victoria's largest state secondary schools, which has contributed generations of junior footballers to the local club scene.
The Blues compete in Division 2 of the Eastern Football Netball League and call Mount Waverley Reserve home. Visit the club website, follow them on Facebook, and follow them on Instagram for news and match day updates.

-
Creating the Break-Through Slits
-
Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.
-
Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.
-
💡 Tips & Tricks
-
Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.
-
Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.
