About Woden Valley Rams

Origins and Founding

The Woden Valley Rams Rugby League Football Club was formed in 1967 in the Woden district of the Australian Capital Territory. The club emerged from the broader sporting culture of the newly developed Woden Valley, which was being established as a major planned suburb south of Canberra's city centre. From its earliest seasons the Rams competed in the local competition that would eventually evolve into the modern Canberra Raiders Cup.

Club History

Over more than five decades the Rams have built a record of consistent competition across all grades. The club claimed its first Second Division premiership in 1969 and went on to win the senior premiership in 1988 and again in 1996. After a 22-year drought the Rams broke through in 2018, defeating the Tuggeranong Bushrangers 31-30 in a grand final thriller. The club has also claimed the Women's premiership (1998), Reserve Grade premiership (2011), and Under 18/19 premierships in 2015 and 2017.

The Rams are one of the ACT's most productive nurseries for elite talent. Notable juniors who progressed to NRL careers include Bailey Simonsson (Canberra Raiders and Parramatta Eels from 2018), Lincoln Withers (Canberra Raiders, Wests Tigers, St George Illawarra Dragons and Hull FC, 2000-2013), Nigel Gaffey (Canberra Raiders, Sydney Roosters and Penrith Panthers, 1989-2000), David Cox (Canberra Raiders and Illawarra Steelers, 1995-99), Brenton Lawrence (Gold Coast Titans and Manly Sea Eagles), Sami Sauiluma (Canberra Raiders, Cronulla Sharks and Gold Coast Titans), Junior Tupou (Sydney Roosters, Dolphins and Wests Tigers from 2022), Lazarus Vaalepu (Melbourne Storm, 2025) and Jed Stuart (Canberra Raiders, 2025).

Home Ground

The Rams play all home matches at Phillip District Ovals in the suburb of Phillip, at the heart of the Woden Valley district. The ground hosts senior and junior grades across the club's competition calendar and is one of the ACT's established community rugby league venues.

Community and Programs

The Woden Valley Rams Senior Club operates alongside the separately run Woden Valley Rams Juniors, providing a development pathway from junior grades through to senior representative football. The club has fielded a Women's team since the 1990s and maintains an active women's program. The Rams are affiliated with the Canberra Region Rugby League, which feeds players into ACT representative sides each season.

Woden Valley

Woden Valley is a district in the Australian Capital Territory, located approximately 10 kilometres south of the Canberra city centre. Developed extensively from the 1960s as part of the ACT's planned expansion, the district encompasses suburbs including Phillip, Garran, Lyons and Hughes, with a combined population of around 40,000. The area is home to several government agencies, Calvary Public Hospital Bruce and the Westfield Woden shopping centre.

The Rams compete in the Canberra Raiders Cup and call Phillip District Ovals home. Visit the club website for more information, follow them on Facebook, and follow them on Instagram for news and match day updates.

    📄 Material & Construction

    • Premium Coated Paper (1.6 m high) printed with permanent, waterproof inks—won’t run or fade, even in wet weather.

    • Eco-friendly & Recyclable: All banners are fully recyclable when the celebration is over.

    • Durable weatherproof sports banners printed on heavy-duty coated paper - these banners are not made of crepe paper.

    🔧 Preparation & Run-Through Setup - Expert instructions for break-through milestone banners.

    • Rigging Your Banner

      • Tape broomsticks or PVC pipe to each edge to keep the banner taut.

      • This creates a professional “run-through” presentation for game-day moments.

    • Creating the Break-Through Slits

      • Vertical Slits: Cut small slits (20–30 cm long) in the centre—this engineered weak spot ensures a clean break when players burst through.

      • Wind-Proof Technique: On windy or rainy days, make multiple smaller slits so the banner doesn’t tear prematurely.

    💡 Tips & Tricks

    • Single Weak Spot: Some players cut only one slit to save and display the torn banner—repair later with clear tape on the reverse.

    • Logo Preservation: Position your slit to one side of the mascot or logo so your club’s emblem stays intact and can be retained afterwards for display.

  • Return and Refund Policy

As each banner is custom made, once ordered, we cannot return them.

Please check the details you submit for printing carefully, as we will make the banner using the exact spelling and information you provide.
